Xiaolan is a firebending mobster and the leader of the Rising Flame Triad, one of the weaker triads in Republic City.
History[]
Xiaolan serves as leader of the Rising Flame Triad, one of the weaker triads in the city. She rose to power thanks to her lightningbending abilities and her grand ambitions.[1] As part of triad tradition, Xiaolan gave all new members their hip flasks with distinctive flame engravings.[2]
The Rising Flames quickly fell under Tokuga's efforts to unify everyone under the Triple Threat Triad. However, when the Triple Threats were weakened in the wake of Tokuga's insurrection, the Rising Flame saw a chance to claim their independence and push back against the rest of the triads.[2]
After regaining their independence, the Rising Flame Triad operated by mostly running numbers and managing their business, the Lucky Cranefish Gambling House.[2][3] While Xiaolan was patient by nature, she had dreams of a more exquisite existence for the triad, beyond their small piece of turf. She began to show everyone she meant business, and the triad kept a close eye on Juniper Kim's laboratory after she set up shop, with Xiaolan thinking that the spirit energy canisters she had there would be the perfect way to show everyone that she meant business. When the canisters went missing, the Rising Flame Triad was among the suspects, as well as the Equalists and the Peace Lily Society.[1][2]
Personality[]
Xiaolan is a confident and charming leader who is both adaptable and cunning. She genuinely loves entertaining guests at the Lucky Cranefish. While doing business, Xiaolan maintains her affable attitude while trying to make the best deal for everyone involved. She considers herself like the flame: always vibrant, easily jumping from one status to the next. Xiaolan believes the triads are the one last frontier of freedom in the modern world, and that each triad has the potential to shape their small part of the world - thanks to crime - into the place they want it to be, the law be damned.[2]
Abilities[]
Xiaolan is a lightningbender and was chosen to lead the triad due to her rare ability.[1] She also had considerable prowess at other firebending techniques, such as being able to breathe fire in a massive gout, and wielding flames like knives.[2]
