Omashu Rocks here with another installment of FRS:The Omashu Scoop! Today's fanon: The Avatar Rhythm by BlackMonkey
Author's Plot: The Avatar Rhythm tells the story of a teenage boy named Shirou who is born 224 years after Avatar: The Last Airbender, when the war ends. After Shirou runs away from his saddening life of royalty in the Northern Water Tribe, everything around him starts taking some mysterious turns as he tries to find and kill the Avatar, destined on getting revenge after the last Avatar accidentally killed his grandfather in war. Corrupted and lost, he befriends the young daughter of a Fire Nation governor who has a similar goal as his, and he settles down in the Capital. Although as soon as his peaceful life begins, Shirou is thrown into conspiracies, curses, tax collectors and bands of rebels, leaving only a few wise souls left that can shape his true destiny. Prepare for huge mysteries, unbearable secrets, and an epic tale that will teach balance and peace in the most complex way. This is more than a story. This is The Avatar Rhythm.
Reading this story was more of a privilege than a duty. The author manages to transport his readers into the Avatar World we all know in love, except this world is suffering at the hands of one of the most corrupt political forces I've ever read about on the wiki. BlackMonkey's natural talent for creative writing is reflected by the fanon's impressive scores.
SCORES:
Plot/Storyline: Brilliant. Not only is there a strong main plot backed by deep central themes, but numerous subplots throughout the story add to its depth. Everything comes together. 9.6
Organization: BlackMonkey has designed a reader-friendly main page and obviously plans ahead with his characters’ actions and the progress of the fanon. Some chapters can be a bit confusing. 9.4
Creativity: Although the story progresses from “Fire Saga” to “Air Saga” to “Water Saga” to “Earth Saga”, Rhythm contains new weapons, new locations, and plenty of new and unique organizations. 9.4
Action: Hungry for some fights? Rhythm delivers with each chapter whether characters are unleashing massive bending force or duking it out hand-to-hand. 9.4
Interest level: Not only will readers find a bountiful amount of cliffhangers and twists, but personally, I actually cared about what happened to the characters. 9.6
Character Development: Shirou’s inner struggle, the relationships between a father and his son, how an unlikely duo can form a perfect team, and various other aspects boost this category to outstanding levels. 9.5
Believability: While the story does have some “no way” moments, this shouldn’t bother a reader too much. 9.3
General Writing: Occasional spelling and grammar mistakes can be found, but descriptions of events and surroundings are excellent. 9.4

What BlackMonkey does right: One problem that many authors run into is the deadly result of a lack in planning. Several fanons can often do one of three things: Introduce subjects that are never followed up on, add a new concept that the other forgot to include earlier at a time where it seems unfitting, or create a confusing/awkward hole in the plot. The Avatar Rhythm, however, is pure of any of these faults. It is clear that BlackMonkey new where his fanon was going in the early stages of writing. In addition, that plot he outlined in his head is one of the best, if not the best, on the wiki.
What BlackMonkey could improve on: It is hard to believe that I am writing advice for BlackMonkey, the guy who once helped me with my own fanon and who I consider to be 10x the author. As a reader though, I would suggest that at some points, the pace needs to be slowed down. Obviously, fanons need excitement and I’m not saying that it be reduced to slow and boring, but an extra filler chapter or two can never hurt.
Who does The Avatar Rhythm appeal to? To put it simply, everyone. Meaning, there is something for every type of reader in this fanon. If you are drawn to romance, action, cliffhangers, adventure, political scandal and corruption, the unique culture of any of the four nations, or strong heros who strive overcome their weaknesses, you should copy the RhythmFan template to your profile page right now.
Would I suggest this fanon to a friend? I’d be a terrible friend if I didn’t.
Would I go out of my way to read this fanon? I’d kill for it....well, maybe not….
