Hello everyone! Bray here, reviewing Sparkstoaflame's one-shot When You Come Home. |
Poetry. It's an art form that expresses deep emotion and, many times, life itself. When reading this one-shot, I felt like I was going back to my poetic roots and immersing myself in the lines. Stories like these are rare, and even rarer when the meaning is well conveyed. I loved it, pure and simple. Blending poetry, fanfiction, and a compelling story takes skill from the writer, so this
one-shot is a testament to the author if seen as nothing else. Seriously, I love poetry like nothing else, so I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was the best blend of literature and poetry I've seen in a long while. |

Overall - 4.8: |
I'm scoring this one-shot differently than other one-shots because it is drastically different, in the best kind of way. It's poetic. It tells a story of the ship "Borra" which, while not being canon, creates an atmosphere that is utterly believable and compelling. It's rare when stories have an impact on my writing and view of fanons, and this one-shot does just that.
It has it all: originality, emotion, prose, and eloquence. I especially loved the descriptions. Sometimes descriptions become far more lengthy in writing and take away from the effect the story attempts to put on the reader; When You Come Home is one of a kind and connects the descriptions in such a way that they flow and augment the plot, however short. I could go on all day about how I liked a certain line specifically, but I'd just end up quoting the entire one-shot -- and by the way, I loved the dialogue mixed in with the poetry like composure, it made the one-shot so much more realistic. Thank you for writing this. It is a breath of fresh air for whoever comes across it. Keep up the awesome work! |

Personal Thoughts |
I love poetry (hopefully you get this since I've mentioned it around 3 times. XD ), so this one-shot was right up my alley! |
If I had to choose my favorite moment, it would be the ending. It was almost bittersweet, and the story-like prose allowed me to visualize Bolin smiling to himself, grinning at the photo in his hands. There were many moments I enjoyed but this had to have been my favorite! |
Advice for the Author |
The only thing -- and this is getting far more nitpicky than I normally get -- is to work on transitions. Other than that, keep doing what you're doing. It's awesome. |
