The Unity was a massive seafaring vessel jointly funded by the business magnate Tiqriganiannig "Tiq" of the Southern Water Tribe with various learning institutions across the world. The Grand Tour of the Unity was one of the most important events of the era of Roku, and spearheaded a technological renaissance across the four nations.[1]

History[]

Planning[]

During the era of Roku, new technological institutes and universities sprang up around the world, with scholars, inventors, and educators directly forging connections with one another in the name of collaboration. The era was a time of unprecedented collaboration fostered by business and academia to solve the most pressing concerns of the time.[1]

Tiqriganiannig

The journey of the Unity was planned by Tiqriganiannig.

The Unity was a massive vessel constructed in the past year or so before the coronation of Fire Lord Sozin, and was built with the accumulated technological knowledge of the learning institutes of the four nations, and funded by Tiq. After its completion, the Unity set out on a year-long trek to visit all the different nations, sharing their studies and technology in a gesture of togetherness.[1]

However, nearly all the ruling bodies of the world wished to stop the voyage. The governments viewed the Unity as a trick and an attempt to deploy spies all over the world. Meanwhile, Tiq's rivals were jealous of the Unity's success, and wished to see the vessel sunk.[1]

Voyage[]

The Unity set sail at some point between 58 BG and 54 BG,[2][3] with its grand journey planned to take about around one year.[4]

The ship successfully visited Natsuo Island, the Fire Nation, and the East and West Lakes. However, it repeatedly ran into trouble due to saboteurs, storms, pirate attacks, and conflicts among the crew. At one point, the ship was even threatened by the infamous serpent.[5]

Legacy[]

The tour of the Unity was famous enough that it was well remembered more than two centuries later. One wealthy explorer named Kanti hoped to reenact the tour of the Unity with an airship called the Harmony, hoping to guide an airship through Republic City's spirit portal to each of the other two portals, visiting the farthest reaches of the world in one grand trip.[6]
