Main storyline[]

Story progression advances from the points of view of Katara and Aang. The mission begins at the Prison Pier.
Katara [Addressing another prisoner.] So, you want to know how I got into this mess, huh? Well...
A series of flashbacks follow, showing the previous events.
Katara I am here to rescue a friend — an Earthbender named Haru. We first found him training alone in a forest. He needed to keep his eaarthbending a secret, or else the Fire Nation would imprison him like his father and the other villagers. When Haru and I discovered that one of the villagers was in danger, I... convinced Haru to use his earthbending to save him... *Sigh* I wasn't the one who turned him in, but I still feel responsible that Haru's bending was exposed... To make things right, my friends and I hatched a plan. We tricked some guards into thinking I'm an Earthbender. It's dangerous, but I had to let myself arrested so I could find Haru... [The flashbacks end.] ... and now I'm going to break him out!
Prisoner ...
Katara Um... are you still listening?
Prisoner Oh, s-sorry! I was distracted by that odd necklace of yours.
Katara It... used to belong to my mother... before the Fire Nation attacked our—
Warden Earthbenders! It is my pleasure to welcome you aboard my modest shipyard. I am your warden. I prefer to think of you not as prisoners, but honored guests. I hope you come to think of me as your humble and caring host. You will succeed here, if you simply abide—
Prisoner *cough*
Warden [Angrily.] What kind of guest dishonors his host by interrupting him?! Take him below! You will notice that this rig is made entirely of metal. You are miles away from any rock or earth. So if you have any illusions about employing that brutish savagery that passes for bending among you people, forget them... [Smiling.] ...It is impossible. Good day.
Katara [Thinking.] I just need to find Haru and wait for the others to get here.
The story continues at the Holding Area.
Haru [Shocked.] Katara!!? What are you doing here?
Katara I came to rescue you!
Haru You've got guts, Katara. I'll give you that. [Happily.] Come on. There's someone I want you to meet.
The two approach an old, gray-bearded man.
Haru This is my father, Tyro.
Katara It's an honor to meet you.
Prisoner Tyro, the prisoners are complaining there aren't enough blankets to go around.
Tyro I'll talk to the guards. In the meantime, make sure the elderly are taken care of.
Katara If you don't mind me asking, what's your escape plan?
Tyro The plan? The plan is to survive; to wait out this war.
Katara [Shocked.] You sound like you've already given up.
Tyro People's lives are at stake here. I'm sorry, but we're powerless.
Katara [Obstinately.] We'll see about that.
[Narration: Katara pauses to gather her thoughts, then addresses the prisoners.]
Katara Earthbenders! You don't know me, but I know of you. Every child in my Water Tribe village was rocked to sleep with stories of the brave Earth Kingdom and the courageous Earthbenders who guard its borders.
Guard [Noticing Katara's speech, addressing the warden.] Sir, should we stop the—
[Narration: The Warden holds up his hand, silencing the guard.]
Katara Some of you may think that the Fire Nation has made you powerless. Yes, they have taken away your ability to bend, but they can't take away your courage. And it is your courage they should truly fear! The time to fight back is now! I can tell you the Avatar has returned! So remember your courage, Earthbenders. Let us fight for our freedom!
Prisoners ...
Warden *chuckle*
Later, Aang and Sokka sneak up to the prison on Appa. They meet up with Katara.
Aang Pssst. Katara! Over here!
Sokka Your time is up. where's Haru? We've gotta get out of here!
Aang Katara, what's wrong?
Katara We can't abandon these people. There has to be a way to help them fight back.
Sokka For that, they would need some kind of earth or some rock — something they can bend.
Katara But this entire place is made of metal.
Aang No, it's not. Look at the smoke. I bet they're burning coal. In other words... earth.
Sokka Hmm... I think I have a plan...
Some time passes. Aang and Appa move to the Prison Pier.
Aang This spot looks safe enough. At least for now, I guess. Okay Appa, in order for Sokka's plan to work I need to sneak around the rig and close some vents. After that, I'll use my airbending to force some coal through the one vent that leads to where the Earthbenders are. Easy!
Appa Grrrg!
Aang Aww, don't worry buddy. I'll be okay.
Guard I someone there?
Aang Quick, you and Momo hide. I'm off to the main rig. Uh... I need to find a hiding spot before they see me! There!
Aang moves to the East Catwalk in the rig's factory section.
Aang Phew, that was close. Man, this place is crawling with guards. Good thing, I'm a master of stealth otherwise this would be—
Guard You there, why are you sneaking around here like an elephant-rat?
Aang Ulp...
Aang is confronted by a group of Fire Nation guards.
Aang I'm not sneaking! I'm just... walking. Slowly walking.
Guard ... Get him!
Aang defeats the guards.
Aang Sorry, for the trouble.
Guard Ugh...
Aang Hmm... Where to go next? Oh! What's that? The vents! Right, I need to close all the vents and find a way inside the coal chamber. Monkey Feathers! All the walkways are retracted! How will I— Oh, of course I can glide over and— Ugh, no. All that hot air and molten metal... ... I shouldn't risk my glider, it's an antique!
Aang moves to the Foundry Junction.
Aang Hunh? Looks like a lever. Perhaps this will lead to where they keep the coal? Urrg, come on! Why-won't-you-budge! It's no use. Must be locked. Wait, if it's locked that means— Aha! Two key holes, all I need is to find the keys. Until then, I better stick to the plan.
Aang moves to the West Catwalk.
Aang There's another lever. Too bad it's guarded. Hmm. They're really chatty though... I bet I could sneak by them.
[Narration: Aang begins to move past the two guards while they're distracted with conversation...]
Spear Guard [Addressing his colleague.] Is that a new mask?
Masked Guard Nah, just polished. I want to look my best when I ask the warden about that promotion.
Spear Guard Have you ever noticed that your mask looks like a skull?
Masked Guard It's standard issue.
Spear Guard I know, but when you really think about it, doesn't it look a bit like...
Masked Guard Like what?
Spear Guard I don't know... Nothing, I guess.
Masked Guard It doesn't strike you as a bit... evil?
Spear Guard Hunh...
Pulled Lever Creeeeaak!
Masked Guard Hey!
Aang [Thinking.] Well, I'm definitely caught.
Spear Guard I'm not saying we are evil. I'm just saying those masks look evil.
Masked Guard Hmm... Well. Alright, but I think you've been listening to the prisoners too much.
Aang Phew.
Masked Guard Intruder!
Aang What??
Aang is confronted by the guards.
Spear Guard Huh.
Masked Guard What now?
Spear Guard I mean... Doesn't this guy look like—
Masked Guard The Avatar! Yes! This will guarantee my promotion.
Aang defeats the guards.
Spear Guard Are we bad peop—
Masked Guard Shut up. Let me pass out in peace…
Aang [To himself.] Why are there so many guards? Oh. Right. Prison. I just got to stick to the plan. Close the vents.
With the walkways to the vents now lowered, Aang approaches the West Vent.
Aang Alright, there's the vent... Hmm. How do you close this thing? I'm not seeing a switch or—
Goro [Angrily.] Who's the little rat crawling on my deck? You want a piece of me, little elephant-rat?
Aang Uh, I'm really tired. *yawn* Can't we just talk this out?
Goro [Angrily.] Ha! The only talking we shall do is with our fists!
Goro confronts Aang.
Goro Get ready for humiliation, elephant-rat.
Aang defeats Goro.
Aang Listen, I told you I didn't want to fight.
Goro Ungh. This... isn't... over...
Aang Hunh? He dropped something as he left! Nice, a key ring. This'll come in handy. Whelp, back to the vent problem. Oh, I just close it by hand. Whew, I really am tired.
Aang closes the vents and heads back, traveling to the East Vent.
Aang Nice! The vent—
??? [Friendly.] Whatcha up to, kid?
Aang Aaaah!
Juro Pardon me, buddy. Didn't mean to scare ya. My name is Juro. What's yours?
Aang [Confused.] ...Aang.
Juro Great, now we're not strangers. So, whatcha up to Aang?
Aang [Reluctantly.] Umm... Nothing. Just... you know, hanging around.
Juro Well, I'd like to believe you, but uh... suspicious stuff has been happening lately and the Warden... ...He'd get pretty upset if I let someone who's definitely not a guard, and even more definitely not dressed in prisoner garb get away. [Politely.] So, unfortunately I gotta take you in for questioning.
Aang confronts Juro.
Aang Listen. I have people counting on me. I can't let you take me.
Juro I was hoping we could avoid a fight, but... ...looks like my hands are tied.
Aang defeats Juro.
Juro Okay, okay, I yield. Oof, you pack quite a punch!
Aang [Angrily.] Why are you so nice? Why do you choose to work here? This place is terrible.
Juro That's a long story, kid, but unfortunately I gotta go get backup.
Aang Wait! [Notices something.] Oh! Looks like he forgot his key ring. Alright, let's close this vent before that backup gets here.
Aang closes the second vent and returns to the Foundry Junction.
Aang [Happily.] Okay, I got two keys and two keyholes! Let's see if this works.
[Narration: Acting quickly, he fumbles around trying different pairs of keys between the two keyrings...]
Aang Aha! Here we go!
The walkway to the central vent is lowered.
Aang That must lead to the final vent! Those guards should be getting close now... [Approaching the central vent.] Coast looks clear.
[Narration: Aang dashes to close the vent...]
Aang Phew. All done with the vents. Now, I just need to get the coal to the prisoners.
Juro [Calmly.] Huh. That's a pretty good plan, Aang. Did you come up with that all by yourself?
Aang [Shocked.] What?! Juro? How—
Goro [Angrily.] I'm here too, little elephant-rat! Let's finish what we started earlier.
Juro I see you've already met my brother.
Goro and Juro confront Aang.
Aang How do you manage to sneak up on me like that?
Juro Practice.
Goro Less yappenin' and more smashenin'.
Aang defeats the brothers.
Goro Ungh...
Juro [Concerned.] Goro! Are you alright? Let me check on hi—
Aang He's ok, but he might have a mean headache later. I need to know how to get to the prison area. Tell me that and I'll get out of your way.
Juro There is a stairwell that leads to the upper level where you can find it.
Aang Alright. Thanks.
[Narration: Juro tends to Goro's headache.]
Aang [To himself.] I hate to do that to him, but they did attack me, after all.
Aang gets to the Towering Stairwell.
Aang [To himself.] I gotta move quickly. I'm already running late. Katara, Sokka, just hold on a bit longer.
The view changes to the prisoner's area, focusing on Katara and Sokka talking.
Katara Do you think Aang is alright?
Sokka I'm sure. He's the Avatar. I just hope he didn't get distracted.
Guard There's the intruder!
Sokka Stay back! I'm warning you!
Tyro Sokka, stop! You can't win this fight!
Warden Listen to him well, child. You're one mistake away from dying where you stand.
[Narration: A sudden loud rumbling comes from the vent... A fountain of coal erupts from the vent carrying Aang with it. He lands, heroically, on top of the coal heap.]
Aang *Cough, cough!* What did I miss?
Katara Here's your chance, Earthbenders! Take it! Your fate is in your own hands!
Prisoner ...
Warden Hahaha! Foolish girl. You thought a few inspirational words and some coal would change these people? Look at these blank, hopeless faces. Their spirits were broken a long time ago. Oh, but you still believe in them. How sweet. You've failed.
[Narration: As the warden walks away a piece of coal strikes him in the back.]
Warden [Pointing to Haru.] Insolent child! Guards! Show no mercy!!!
Tyro For the Earth Kingdom! Attack!
The prisoners rise in rebellion, and a battle erupts between Tyro, Haru and several guards.
Tyro [Happily.] Nice shot back there, son.
Haru [Happily.] Thanks, dad. That means a lot!
Tyro and Haru defeat several guards.
Haru Woah! This coal feels so much easier to bend.
Tyro You're not doing it alone anymore. Now, let's set our people free!
Guard Fall back!
Haru Now's our chance!
Tyro Alright! Everyone! Together!
Tyro and Haru form a large coal ball and use it to smash the metal gate to the factory area.
Guard The holding gate has been breached!
Tyro Get to the ship! We'll hold them off!
Warden Do not let them escape!
Aang Katara! We'll cover the escaping prisoners! You go after Haru!
Tyro, Haru, and Katara confront the warden.
Katara I think it's time we bid our host a fine farewell.
Haru I couldn't agree more!
Warden Oh my. I certainly didn't expect to have to get my hands so dirty today. I'll have to cleanse them with fire.
Tyro, Haru, and Katara defeat the warden.
Tyro I'm so proud of you, Haru.
Haru Dad...
Tyro And, Katara... I owe you an apology. I didn't think it was possible to do what you did today.
Katara Don't dwell on it, too much. The Warden did his best to break your spirit. Your hope must have been buried under years of that tyranny.
Tyro [Turning to the warden.] One last thing...
Tyro, Haru, and another earthbender work together to lift coal beneath the warden and other guards, moving them away from the rig and over the ocean.
Warden [Pleading.] No! Please! I can't swim!
Tyro Don't worry. I hear cowards float. [Drops their enemies into the ocean.]
Warden Aaaaaaaaah!
[Narration: Later, on the boat to the mainland.]
Haru I want to thank you for saving me. For saving us.
Katara All it took was a little coal.
Haru It wasn't the coal, Katara. It was you.
Tyro Thank you for helping me find my courage, Katara of the Water Tribe. My family and everyone here owes you much.
Katara So, I guess you're going home now.
Tyro [Determined.] Soon we return home to take back our villages! [More calmly.] But we'll have to return and secure this prison really soon after that! We have to make sure this rig never holds another prisoner again!
Haru [To Katara.] Come with us.
Katara I can't. Your mission is here. Ours is to get Aang to the North Pole.
Haru ...
Katara [Realizing something.] My mother's necklace! It's gone!
[Narration: Back on the rig...]
Spear Soldier Prince Zuko... What did you find there?
The scene changes to show Zuko standing alone, holding Katara's necklace and staring at it grimly.
The scene changes again to show Team Avatar flying on Appa.
Aang Are you alright, Katara?
Katara I'll be alright, eventually. At least we were able to free Haru and the rest of the Earthbenders.
Sokka All thanks to MY plan.
Aang Next time can I be the plan guy. Seems like a lot less work.
Sokka Hey! I do plenty of work.
Katara My only regret is losing mother's necklace. I do hope I see it again.
End of the mission.

Extra mission[]

After finishing the main storyline in the Prison Rig sub-region, players can return to do additional battles, triggering extra interactions as part of a side mission. In these interactions, they do no longer play as Aang or Katara, but as Tyro, Haru, and unidentified earthbenders. The mission starts at the Prison Pier.
Boqin Breach the wall! The Earth Kingdom has lived in the shadow of this prison rig for far too long. This is our time!
Earth Kingdom Soldier But the whole prison is made of metal. How are we going to fight in there?
Boqin Earthbenders are sending sand and gravel over the walls from those boats. That should be enough fuel for our warriors to get started.
Tyro [Happily.] Captain! Thank you for coming to our aide!
Boqin You've been fighting on your own long enough, citizen. Now let the professionals help. What's the state of affairs?
Haru After our little rebellion, the Warden managed to get a foothold again with the help of some passing Fire Nation Prince.
Tyro We returned, and managed to drive the Warden into his tower, but a ship full of reinforcements arrived. Both sides have taken hits, but overall, it's a bit of a stalemate.
Boqin [Resolutely.] It's imperative we take this rig. If the enemy wins, they'll either return it to its original purpose, or use it as a strategic outpost for their naval ships. Either way concerns me.
Haru So… What do you need us to do?
Boqin Our first step is to take out the Foundry. If you meet any other Earth Kingdom soldiers along the way, help them out.
Haru [To Tyro, hesitantly.] Dad… wait.
Tyro Are you alright, Haru?
Haru I'm… a little shaken, to tell the truth. For years, I've been hiding my earthbending, out of fear of getting arrested by the Fire Nation… …only to be revealed by an old man I saved from a rockslide. To be honest… getting arrested was a gift. It freed me. [Happily.] After getting arrested, I didn't have to hide anymore. But now… [Less excitedly.] Now that I'm seeing the ugliness of war firsthand… …It's not that I don't want the Fire Nation to be defeated, but… I just want to create things… I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a soldier.
Tyro [Wearily.] Son… …I'm so sorry you're in this place. This is why I fought. All those years ago… To protect you from having to. [Confidently.] But right now… we have to fight for the same reason I fought for you all those years ago: so that in the future, no Earthbender will have to.
Haru … Let's go then. When the dust settles, then I will build.
The earthbenders move to the East Catwalk.
Haru Over there! They need our help!
Tyro [Angrily.] Three Ash Makers ganging up on a single Earthbender? Not exactly sporting, is it?
Haru Let's…
Spear Soldier Stop right there!
The earthbenders are confronted by a group of Fire Nation soldiers.
Spear Soldier You Dirt People have got to learn your place.
Tyro You Fire Tossers need to keep out of our kingdom!
Spear Soldier How DARE you?!!!!
The heroes defeat the first group of soldiers, and proceed to fight a second one.
Haru [Addressing the soldiers.] Wait… think about this for a second. Do you really think you're helping us by invading our land, and jailing our Earthbenders? Aren't you just as exploited as we are?
Spear Soldier Shut your airhole, Mud Puppet.
Haru *Sigh*… I tried.
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
Haru Maybe they'll dream about their life choices now they're knocked out, and come to realize the errors of their ways.
Tyro Maybe… But let's not wait to find out. Those Earth Kingdom soldiers still need our help.
The group continues to the Foundry Junction.
Earth Kingdom Soldier *Ung!*
Haru We're too late!
Tyro Too late to save him, perhaps, but not too late to avenge.
Spear Soldier More meat for the grinder. Let's go!
The earthbenders confront the first group of soldiers.
Spear Soldier [Laughing.] Look at these dirt farmers. They're going to be much easier to knock down than those hardened soldiers.
Tyro Don't get your hopes up.
Haru Three on one wasn't exactly a fair fight.
The heroes defeat the first group of soldiers, and proceed to fight a second group.
Spear Soldier When is the Earth Kingdom going to accept that you're a conquered people?
Tyro The same day you Jerkbenders accept that you're not wanted here.
The heroes defeat the second group of soldiers.
Spear Soldier Scatter! They're too much for us!
Tyro Take that!
Haru I know it didn't work this time, but shouldn't we be trying to convince them our case is just?
Tyro *Sigh.* Son… I wish I still had your idealism, but years of prison have made me jaded.
Earth Kingdom Soldier Ung… What hit me?
Tyro Just a couple of Wet Squibs. Nothing we couldn't handle.
Earth Kingdom Soldier Be careful up there. Supplies are running thin. Might want to take some dirt with you.
Haru [Cheerfully.] Can't exactly stuff my pockets with gravel when I have no pockets.
The earthbenders move forward to the West Catwalk.
Exhausted Soldier Eat DIRT! Ungh!
Tyro That Soldier just took out a whole wave of Fire Nation soldiers single-handedly.
Haru They don't look so good.
Exhausted Soldier I took them out, but we're running low on supplies. Please get word back to Captain Boqin that we need a resupply before the enemy sends another wave. I'm counting on you.
The group returns to the Prison Pier for more earth.
Boqin Welcome back, conscripts. What can I do for you?
Tyro Soldiers on the west catwalk are running out of supplies. If we're going to rescue that position, we'll need to bring them some necessities.
Boqin Soldiers! Give these men whatever they ask for!
The heroes receive an abundant resupply of rocks and sand to fuel earthbending soldiers in combat.
Earth Kingdom Soldier Here you are.
Boqin You're doing the good work, conscripts. Return for more when you need it. We'll keep the supply roads open as long as there's anything to spare.
The group returns to the West Catwalk with the supplies.
Earth Kingdom Soldier [In fear.] Holy Shu! I can hear them coming up the catwalk!
Spear Soldier One Dirt Eater left to guard the whole catwalk, eh? This should be easy.
Haru Stop right there!
Spear Soldier [Confused.] Who… Who are you?
Haru I'm here to kick butt and chew jennamite, and I'm all out of jennamite.
The group confronts the first wave of Fire Nation soldiers.
Spear Soldier Get behind them! We can cut them off from…
Masked Soldier How? there's [sic] no way around.
Spear Soldier I don't care how, just…
Haru You're not getting past. Just come at us.
The heroes defeat the first wave of opponents and fight the second one.
Spear Soldier You're letting some Dirt Throwers get the jump on you? Pull yourself together!
Tyro You poor, poor, little firebender. You really have no idea what you're getting into, do you?
The group defeats the second wave of soldiers.
Spear Soldier Fall back! They're too much for us!
Haru That wasn't too bad.
Earth Kingdom Soldier Thank you! I couldn't have done it myself. But I left some friends behind on the upper level when I retreated down here. If they're still alive, they're going to nee backup.
Tyro Leave it to us.
The group moves to the Towering Stairwell.
Tyro This stairwell leads up to the upper level.
Haru [Worriedly.] Sounds like the battle is going on in force up there.
Tyro We'll have to be careful going up… and to cover our exit. If they cut us off, we could get stuck up here without supplies.
Haru Let's go.
The earthbenders arrive at the Upper Landing on the upper floor of the Foundry.
Haru [Anxiously.] It's pretty hairy up here, dad!
Tyro Stay close! I don't know what I'd do if I lost you now… …So soon after I got you back.
Haru Keep an eye out for the warden. He's got to be around here somewhere. If we can find him, maybe we can put an end to this before too many people get hurt.
The heroes travel to the Upper West Wing.
Haru Those firebenders haven't noticed us. It'll be easy to get the jump on them.
Tyro We're almost out of stone, though, so we're going to have to pace ourselves.
Haru [Serious.] Let's get 'em.
The earthbenders confront the first group of soldiers.
Haru EAT ROCKS!
Soldiers Aaaa!
The heroes defeat the first group of enemies and proceed to fight a second group.
Masked Soldier Regroup, soldiers! If we let these jerks take us down, the Warden will have our hides!
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
Spear Soldier They're pelting us with rocks! Withdraw!
Tyro Another win for "Team Tyro".
Haru We're going to have to work on that name.
Earth Kingdom Soldier You two really mopped the floor with those guys.
Tyro We're also going to need more supplies if we want to forge ahead.
Earth Kingdom Soldier I'll hold the line for you. You go for supplies!
The team heads back to the Prison Pier for more stone supplies.
Earth Kingdom Soldier I'll have it ready for you in a moment.
The heroes receive the supplies and return to the Upper West Wing.
Earth Kingdom Soldier You guys showed up just in time! Thanks for the resupply! This should be enough to press the assault further. I'll hold this site, you two try to clear one of those two paths ahead!
Tyro The right path leads to the upper promenade… …and there seems to be some Fire Nation soldiers preparing over on the left.
Haru Hmm. Might be a guard post or something.
Tyro Which way do you think we should go first?
The team travels to the Upper Promenade.
Tyro There's a lot of activity up in that tower over there. You think that might be the warden's holdout?
Haru It's not a bad guess. Unless it's a trap, but if it is, that's a lot of manpower to waste.
Tyro Not sure how we're going to get across there, though. Any ideas?
Haru This mechanism here might help with that. There seems to be two keyholes in it.
The group continues forward to the Upper East Wing.
Masked Soldier Juro's alright… he's always been so kind to me.
Spear Soldier You don't think he's a bit of a try-hard? I dunno. The guy seems TOO nice, you know? Goro at least knows how to…
Masked Soldier TOO nice? What does that even… Wait… Did you hear that?!!
Haru Uh… Hi there.
Spear Soldier Get them!
The heroes are confronted by the soldiers.
Haru But we're just lowly servants trying to get to…
Spear Soldier Do you take us for idiots?
Haru Yeah, ok… It was worth a shot.
The heroes defeat the first wave of soldiers and proceed to fight a second one.
Tyro Take them down before they can call for help.
Haru Well, we could just let them and then take their friends down, too.
Tyro Don't get cocky, son. This way's easier.
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
Spear Soldier J… JURO!!!!
Tyro He's out.
Haru Yes, but does this mean he knows Juro's nearby?
Tyro It might. Let's keep our eyes peeled. Maybe he has one of those key rings we need.
The group follows a path further to the Prison Barracks.
Spear Soldier It hurts… It hurst…
Juro Just lie still. I'll get that patched up for you in a minute. [Addressing the earthbenders.] Oh, hello.
Haru [Confused.] H… hi.
Juro Looks like you folks have seen some dark times.
Tyro Uh… You could say that, I suppose.
Juro Have a seat. Let me look at your wounds.
Haru Uh… aren't you going to try to take us down?
Juro My brother's more of a fighting type. I'm just waiting for this war to be over.
Tyro [Smiling.] You seem so nice… Maybe you want to just give us the keys to the Warden's platform and let us go?
Juro [Thoughtful.] Oooh.. Uh… Yeah.. I'd love to help you with that, but unfortunately my fear of being punished by my superiors is greater than my desire to help out a couple of fellows. [Scowling.] I'd have to make a big show of standing up to you if that happens.
The heroes are confronted by Juro and his soldiers.
Tyro Alright then. It's unfortunate, but that's just how we're going to have to play it.
Juro [Wearily.] I apologize, gentlemen. Let's… get this over with.
The earthbenders defeat Juro's squad.
Haru Well… We beat him, but I still feel bad, for some reason.
Tyro He's a nice guy, but ultimately, you just can't trust the Fire Nation. There's his key ring. I don't feel great taking it, but we need it.
Juro G… good luck, guys. I b… believe in y—you…
Haru [Happily.] What a class act.
The group heads back and moves to the Prison Armory.
Spear Soldier …we just have to hold out until the reinforcements…
Masked Soldier We can't count on that! What if they come too late?
Haru I'd say they're already too late.
Soldiers AAh!!!
Goro [Frowning.] Woah, there. Looks like I arrived just in time. These Earthbenders thought they could get the drop on us. Let's make them fear the volcano.
Goro and his soldiers confront the heroes.
Tyro Let's strike these Match Heads.
Goro [Angrily.] There's no way two measly little Prison Rats can take us!
The heroes defeat Goro and his squad.
Haru That's what I love about you Fire Nation boys. Overconfident to a fault. [Notices something.] Looks like that one dropped a keyring.
Tyro If that's what I think it is, it might be quite useful.
Goro [Weakened.] N… no… ungh!
Tyro Blown out like a match in the wind.
The team heads back to the Upper Promenade.
Tyro Alright. You take that keyhole, and I'll take this one.
[Narration: Click!]
Haru Alright. The bridge is unlocked.
Tyro I'm going to be honest with you, son. This is unlikely to be an easy fight. Since his reinforcements arrived, the Warden has surrounded himself with an elite core of firebending guards selected for their cruelty. It's not going to be easy…
Boqin Can we help?
Tyro and Haru [Surprised.] !!!
Boqin Oh, come on. You didn't think we'd leave you to fight the most important skirmish of the whole battle alone, did you?
Tyro Even without that, we would have done everything in our power to…
Boqin That still might be expected of you. But together, we have a much greater chance of taking this rig in the name of the Earth Kingdom! Let's smother those Ash Makers with a mountain of dirt!
The earthbenders confront the soldiers.
Tyro For our people! For the—
Boqin For the EARTH KINGDOM! Charge!
The earthbenders defeat the first group of soldiers and proceed to fight a second group.
Masked Soldier Come on! Let's get these Dirt—Uh… Rock… Rolling… um—
Haru Running out of ideas?
Spear Soldier What about Mountain Movers?
Masked Soldier No, no. That's more of a compliment… Uh, Boulder Bouncers…?
Boqin HOW DARE YOU! I'LL SHOW YOU A BOULDER BOUNCER!
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
Boqin We are victorious! For the—
Tyro For the Earth Kingdom!
Haru You're a little competitive, huh?
Tyro I don't know what you're talking about. [To Boqin.] Captain Boqin. I am grateful for your arrival. It was a great boon to my people and I.
Boqin You mean OUR people. Thanks for the praise, but it is you and your son who are the most deserving. Anyway, there will be more time to talk once we're done here. Everyone! It's time to move out.
The heroes proceed across the recently unlocked bridge to the Terrace Crossing.
Haru [Worriedly.] There he is!
Warden Oh, my. I've never seen such a filthy mess of unkempt Dirt People. Did you really think you stood a chance against my army of elite Firebenders? Pathetic!
Boqin [Angrily.] Rrrrrrrr… Chaaaarge!!!!!
Haru But… where is his army? He's alone on the… wait! It's a tra—
The bridge across the gap ahead is destroyed.
Warden Ahahahahahahahahaha!!! Fools! THIS is why the Earth Kingdom is so EASY to colonize. You always fall for the same old tricks.
Haru This guy needs to be taught some humility.
Tyro The Earth Kingdom has suffered under the yolk of this tyranny for too long. I want to take him down as much as you do, but we'll have to find another way across the gap.
The earthbenders return to the Prison Pier for more stone supplies.
Earth Kingdom Soldier Just hold on a minute. We've got a lot going on here, but your request is important to us. [After a while.] Here's your requisition order. Use it wisely. We're running low ourselves. Maybe come back later once we get another shipment in.
Armed with more rocks, the group travels back to the Terrace Crossing.
Tyro We didn't have all this stone last time around. Why don't we…?
[Narration: Tyro and Haru concentrate. The stone supplies rearrange into a bridge.]
Tyro Are you ready for this, son?
Haru I'm more worried about you. You endured this man's brutality for years. Are you sure you're ready for this?
Tyro I was complacent for far too long. With the help of Katara and the Avatar, I've awoken, as if from a long sleep. Now that I'm awake, there's no chance I will ever—
Warden A bridge. How resourceful. Well? Are you coming?
The team crosses the stone bridge to the Warden's Terrace.
Tyro Alright, son. This is it.
Haru Let's get him before—
Goro Too late.
Warden Oh, my.
The heroes are confronted by the Warden, Goro, and Juro.
Warden When are you Dirt Throwing Dogs going to learn your place?!! The Fire Nation have a RIGHT to this land. The whole world is out of balance, and only Ozai can bring ORDER to—
Tyro [Angrily.] You have the gall to say that after meeting the Avatar first hand?
Goro That bald little elephant-rat is not the Avatar! He's much too young!
Juro [Thoughtful.] The REAL Avatar would be over 100 years old now.
The earthbenders defeat the Warden's team after a hard battle.
Haru Avatar or not, Aang really helped us out in a way only the Avatar could have.
Tyro It doesn't matter.
Haru [Surprised.] Hunh?
Tyro He did help us… In the biggest way anyone could have. He helped us to help ourselves. If everyone did that, the world wouldn't need saviors.
Haru [Thoughtful.] Maybe THAT is the purpose of the Avatar: to awaken the savior within us. So that we can save ourselves.
Goro and Juro [Weakened.] Ungh!
Warden You… can't… defeat ME! I'm the warden! This place is—
[Narration: Tyro flicks a single piece of coal at the warden, striking the center of his forehead.
Warden *Uuuuuuuhhhhhh!*
Haru We did it. The platform is OURS!
Tyro We've lost a lot of friends along the road, but war is never a pleasant affair. I hoped to spare you from all of this, Haru… … but in the end… I'm glad you were here with me for this moment.
Haru Me too, dad.
Tyro I'm proud of you, son. You proved yourself as a soldier today.
Haru That… means a lot. What do we do now?
Tyro Let's report back to the remaining Earth Kingdom soldiers back at the pier.
The group moves back to the Prison Pier.
Tyro We've defeated the warden.
Boqin This is good news… Ungh! It… still hurts when I move too fast… …But this is cause to celebrate. You have achieved the impossible, and the Earth Kingdom extends its gratitude to you for your hard work and sacrifice. There are still Fire Nation holdouts in corners of the rig, and we can't count on there being no reinforcements arriving… …but I suggest you head home to your family.
Tyro Haru… I really want to see your mother. I miss her terribly.
Boqin Go to her! You've certainly earned it.
Tyro [Happily.] Son… It's time to build.
Boqin Field report, private. Catch me up.
Earth Kingdom Soldier Two major events are ongoing, sir. Firstly, Fire nation holdouts on the upper deck have barricaded themselves in the warden's office. Our soldiers report they've heard the warden's voice bossing them around through the door. Secondly, a Fire Nation cruiser full of reinforcements has arrived. They're trying to take back the prisoner holding area, and our soldiers are desperately short on supplies.
Boqin Hmmm. If we go after the reinforcements, the warden might have a chance to escape. But if we go after the warden, the reinforcements might have a chance to retake the holding area.
Earth Kingdom Soldier So… which one do we start with?
End of the mission, though the battles can be fought again.
