After finishing the main storyline in the Prison Rig sub-region, players can return to do additional battles, triggering extra interactions as part of a side mission. In these interactions, they do no longer play as Aang or Katara, but as Tyro, Haru, and unidentified earthbenders. The mission starts at the Prison Pier.
| Boqin
Breach the wall! The Earth Kingdom has lived in the shadow of this prison rig for far too long. This is our time!
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
But the whole prison is made of metal. How are we going to fight in there?
| Boqin
Earthbenders are sending sand and gravel over the walls from those boats. That should be enough fuel for our warriors to get started.
| Tyro
[Happily.] Captain! Thank you for coming to our aide!
| Boqin
You've been fighting on your own long enough, citizen. Now let the professionals help. What's the state of affairs?
| Haru
After our little rebellion, the Warden managed to get a foothold again with the help of some passing Fire Nation Prince.
| Tyro
We returned, and managed to drive the Warden into his tower, but a ship full of reinforcements arrived. Both sides have taken hits, but overall, it's a bit of a stalemate.
| Boqin
[Resolutely.] It's imperative we take this rig. If the enemy wins, they'll either return it to its original purpose, or use it as a strategic outpost for their naval ships. Either way concerns me.
| Haru
So… What do you need us to do?
| Boqin
Our first step is to take out the Foundry. If you meet any other Earth Kingdom soldiers along the way, help them out.
| Haru
[To Tyro, hesitantly.] Dad… wait.
| Tyro
Are you alright, Haru?
| Haru
I'm… a little shaken, to tell the truth. For years, I've been hiding my earthbending, out of fear of getting arrested by the Fire Nation… …only to be revealed by an old man I saved from a rockslide. To be honest… getting arrested was a gift. It freed me. [Happily.] After getting arrested, I didn't have to hide anymore. But now… [Less excitedly.] Now that I'm seeing the ugliness of war firsthand… …It's not that I don't want the Fire Nation to be defeated, but… I just want to create things… I'm not sure I'm cut out to be a soldier.
| Tyro
[Wearily.] Son… …I'm so sorry you're in this place. This is why I fought. All those years ago… To protect you from having to. [Confidently.] But right now… we have to fight for the same reason I fought for you all those years ago: so that in the future, no Earthbender will have to.
| Haru
… Let's go then. When the dust settles, then I will build.
The earthbenders move to the East Catwalk.
| Haru
Over there! They need our help!
| Tyro
[Angrily.] Three Ash Makers ganging up on a single Earthbender? Not exactly sporting, is it?
| Haru
Let's…
| Spear Soldier
Stop right there!
The earthbenders are confronted by a group of Fire Nation soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
You Dirt People have got to learn your place.
| Tyro
You Fire Tossers need to keep out of our kingdom!
| Spear Soldier
How DARE you?!!!!
The heroes defeat the first group of soldiers, and proceed to fight a second one.
| Haru
[Addressing the soldiers.] Wait… think about this for a second. Do you really think you're helping us by invading our land, and jailing our Earthbenders? Aren't you just as exploited as we are?
| Spear Soldier
Shut your airhole, Mud Puppet.
| Haru
*Sigh*… I tried.
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
| Haru
Maybe they'll dream about their life choices now they're knocked out, and come to realize the errors of their ways.
| Tyro
Maybe… But let's not wait to find out. Those Earth Kingdom soldiers still need our help.
The group continues to the Foundry Junction.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
*Ung!*
| Haru
We're too late!
| Tyro
Too late to save him, perhaps, but not too late to avenge.
| Spear Soldier
More meat for the grinder. Let's go!
The earthbenders confront the first group of soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
[Laughing.] Look at these dirt farmers. They're going to be much easier to knock down than those hardened soldiers.
| Tyro
Don't get your hopes up.
| Haru
Three on one wasn't exactly a fair fight.
The heroes defeat the first group of soldiers, and proceed to fight a second group.
| Spear Soldier
When is the Earth Kingdom going to accept that you're a conquered people?
| Tyro
The same day you Jerkbenders accept that you're not wanted here.
The heroes defeat the second group of soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
Scatter! They're too much for us!
| Tyro
Take that!
| Haru
I know it didn't work this time, but shouldn't we be trying to convince them our case is just?
| Tyro
*Sigh.* Son… I wish I still had your idealism, but years of prison have made me jaded.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Ung… What hit me?
| Tyro
Just a couple of Wet Squibs. Nothing we couldn't handle.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Be careful up there. Supplies are running thin. Might want to take some dirt with you.
| Haru
[Cheerfully.] Can't exactly stuff my pockets with gravel when I have no pockets.
The earthbenders move forward to the West Catwalk.
| Exhausted Soldier
Eat DIRT! Ungh!
| Tyro
That Soldier just took out a whole wave of Fire Nation soldiers single-handedly.
| Haru
They don't look so good.
| Exhausted Soldier
I took them out, but we're running low on supplies. Please get word back to Captain Boqin that we need a resupply before the enemy sends another wave. I'm counting on you.
The group returns to the Prison Pier for more earth.
| Boqin
Welcome back, conscripts. What can I do for you?
| Tyro
Soldiers on the west catwalk are running out of supplies. If we're going to rescue that position, we'll need to bring them some necessities.
| Boqin
Soldiers! Give these men whatever they ask for!
The heroes receive an abundant resupply of rocks and sand to fuel earthbending soldiers in combat.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Here you are.
| Boqin
You're doing the good work, conscripts. Return for more when you need it. We'll keep the supply roads open as long as there's anything to spare.
The group returns to the West Catwalk with the supplies.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
[In fear.] Holy Shu! I can hear them coming up the catwalk!
| Spear Soldier
One Dirt Eater left to guard the whole catwalk, eh? This should be easy.
| Haru
Stop right there!
| Spear Soldier
[Confused.] Who… Who are you?
| Haru
I'm here to kick butt and chew jennamite, and I'm all out of jennamite.
The group confronts the first wave of Fire Nation soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
Get behind them! We can cut them off from…
| Masked Soldier
How? there's [sic] no way around.
| Spear Soldier
I don't care how, just…
| Haru
You're not getting past. Just come at us.
The heroes defeat the first wave of opponents and fight the second one.
| Spear Soldier
You're letting some Dirt Throwers get the jump on you? Pull yourself together!
| Tyro
You poor, poor, little firebender. You really have no idea what you're getting into, do you?
The group defeats the second wave of soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
Fall back! They're too much for us!
| Haru
That wasn't too bad.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Thank you! I couldn't have done it myself. But I left some friends behind on the upper level when I retreated down here. If they're still alive, they're going to nee backup.
| Tyro
Leave it to us.
The group moves to the Towering Stairwell.
| Tyro
This stairwell leads up to the upper level.
| Haru
[Worriedly.] Sounds like the battle is going on in force up there.
| Tyro
We'll have to be careful going up… and to cover our exit. If they cut us off, we could get stuck up here without supplies.
| Haru
Let's go.
The earthbenders arrive at the Upper Landing on the upper floor of the Foundry.
| Haru
[Anxiously.] It's pretty hairy up here, dad!
| Tyro
Stay close! I don't know what I'd do if I lost you now… …So soon after I got you back.
| Haru
Keep an eye out for the warden. He's got to be around here somewhere. If we can find him, maybe we can put an end to this before too many people get hurt.
The heroes travel to the Upper West Wing.
| Haru
Those firebenders haven't noticed us. It'll be easy to get the jump on them.
| Tyro
We're almost out of stone, though, so we're going to have to pace ourselves.
| Haru
[Serious.] Let's get 'em.
The earthbenders confront the first group of soldiers.
| Haru
EAT ROCKS!
| Soldiers
Aaaa!
The heroes defeat the first group of enemies and proceed to fight a second group.
| Masked Soldier
Regroup, soldiers! If we let these jerks take us down, the Warden will have our hides!
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
They're pelting us with rocks! Withdraw!
| Tyro
Another win for "Team Tyro".
| Haru
We're going to have to work on that name.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
You two really mopped the floor with those guys.
| Tyro
We're also going to need more supplies if we want to forge ahead.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
I'll hold the line for you. You go for supplies!
The team heads back to the Prison Pier for more stone supplies.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
I'll have it ready for you in a moment.
The heroes receive the supplies and return to the Upper West Wing.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
You guys showed up just in time! Thanks for the resupply! This should be enough to press the assault further. I'll hold this site, you two try to clear one of those two paths ahead!
| Tyro
The right path leads to the upper promenade… …and there seems to be some Fire Nation soldiers preparing over on the left.
| Haru
Hmm. Might be a guard post or something.
| Tyro
Which way do you think we should go first?
The team travels to the Upper Promenade.
| Tyro
There's a lot of activity up in that tower over there. You think that might be the warden's holdout?
| Haru
It's not a bad guess. Unless it's a trap, but if it is, that's a lot of manpower to waste.
| Tyro
Not sure how we're going to get across there, though. Any ideas?
| Haru
This mechanism here might help with that. There seems to be two keyholes in it.
The group continues forward to the Upper East Wing.
| Masked Soldier
Juro's alright… he's always been so kind to me.
| Spear Soldier
You don't think he's a bit of a try-hard? I dunno. The guy seems TOO nice, you know? Goro at least knows how to…
| Masked Soldier
TOO nice? What does that even… Wait… Did you hear that?!!
| Haru
Uh… Hi there.
| Spear Soldier
Get them!
The heroes are confronted by the soldiers.
| Haru
But we're just lowly servants trying to get to…
| Spear Soldier
Do you take us for idiots?
| Haru
Yeah, ok… It was worth a shot.
The heroes defeat the first wave of soldiers and proceed to fight a second one.
| Tyro
Take them down before they can call for help.
| Haru
Well, we could just let them and then take their friends down, too.
| Tyro
Don't get cocky, son. This way's easier.
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
| Spear Soldier
J… JURO!!!!
| Tyro
He's out.
| Haru
Yes, but does this mean he knows Juro's nearby?
| Tyro
It might. Let's keep our eyes peeled. Maybe he has one of those key rings we need.
The group follows a path further to the Prison Barracks.
| Spear Soldier
It hurts… It hurst…
| Juro
Just lie still. I'll get that patched up for you in a minute. [Addressing the earthbenders.] Oh, hello.
| Haru
[Confused.] H… hi.
| Juro
Looks like you folks have seen some dark times.
| Tyro
Uh… You could say that, I suppose.
| Juro
Have a seat. Let me look at your wounds.
| Haru
Uh… aren't you going to try to take us down?
| Juro
My brother's more of a fighting type. I'm just waiting for this war to be over.
| Tyro
[Smiling.] You seem so nice… Maybe you want to just give us the keys to the Warden's platform and let us go?
| Juro
[Thoughtful.] Oooh.. Uh… Yeah.. I'd love to help you with that, but unfortunately my fear of being punished by my superiors is greater than my desire to help out a couple of fellows. [Scowling.] I'd have to make a big show of standing up to you if that happens.
The heroes are confronted by Juro and his soldiers.
| Tyro
Alright then. It's unfortunate, but that's just how we're going to have to play it.
| Juro
[Wearily.] I apologize, gentlemen. Let's… get this over with.
The earthbenders defeat Juro's squad.
| Haru
Well… We beat him, but I still feel bad, for some reason.
| Tyro
He's a nice guy, but ultimately, you just can't trust the Fire Nation. There's his key ring. I don't feel great taking it, but we need it.
| Juro
G… good luck, guys. I b… believe in y—you…
| Haru
[Happily.] What a class act.
The group heads back and moves to the Prison Armory.
| Spear Soldier
…we just have to hold out until the reinforcements…
| Masked Soldier
We can't count on that! What if they come too late?
| Haru
I'd say they're already too late.
| Soldiers
AAh!!!
| Goro
[Frowning.] Woah, there. Looks like I arrived just in time. These Earthbenders thought they could get the drop on us. Let's make them fear the volcano.
Goro and his soldiers confront the heroes.
| Tyro
Let's strike these Match Heads.
| Goro
[Angrily.] There's no way two measly little Prison Rats can take us!
The heroes defeat Goro and his squad.
| Haru
That's what I love about you Fire Nation boys. Overconfident to a fault. [Notices something.] Looks like that one dropped a keyring.
| Tyro
If that's what I think it is, it might be quite useful.
| Goro
[Weakened.] N… no… ungh!
| Tyro
Blown out like a match in the wind.
The team heads back to the Upper Promenade.
| Tyro
Alright. You take that keyhole, and I'll take this one.
[Narration: Click!]
| Haru
Alright. The bridge is unlocked.
| Tyro
I'm going to be honest with you, son. This is unlikely to be an easy fight. Since his reinforcements arrived, the Warden has surrounded himself with an elite core of firebending guards selected for their cruelty. It's not going to be easy…
| Boqin
Can we help?
| Tyro and Haru
[Surprised.] !!!
| Boqin
Oh, come on. You didn't think we'd leave you to fight the most important skirmish of the whole battle alone, did you?
| Tyro
Even without that, we would have done everything in our power to…
| Boqin
That still might be expected of you. But together, we have a much greater chance of taking this rig in the name of the Earth Kingdom! Let's smother those Ash Makers with a mountain of dirt!
The earthbenders confront the soldiers.
| Tyro
For our people! For the—
| Boqin
For the EARTH KINGDOM! Charge!
The earthbenders defeat the first group of soldiers and proceed to fight a second group.
| Masked Soldier
Come on! Let's get these Dirt—Uh… Rock… Rolling… um—
| Haru
Running out of ideas?
| Spear Soldier
What about Mountain Movers?
| Masked Soldier
No, no. That's more of a compliment… Uh, Boulder Bouncers…?
| Boqin
HOW DARE YOU! I'LL SHOW YOU A BOULDER BOUNCER!
The earthbenders defeat the second group of soldiers.
| Boqin
We are victorious! For the—
| Tyro
For the Earth Kingdom!
| Haru
You're a little competitive, huh?
| Tyro
I don't know what you're talking about. [To Boqin.] Captain Boqin. I am grateful for your arrival. It was a great boon to my people and I.
| Boqin
You mean OUR people. Thanks for the praise, but it is you and your son who are the most deserving. Anyway, there will be more time to talk once we're done here. Everyone! It's time to move out.
The heroes proceed across the recently unlocked bridge to the Terrace Crossing.
| Haru
[Worriedly.] There he is!
| Warden
Oh, my. I've never seen such a filthy mess of unkempt Dirt People. Did you really think you stood a chance against my army of elite Firebenders? Pathetic!
| Boqin
[Angrily.] Rrrrrrrr… Chaaaarge!!!!!
| Haru
But… where is his army? He's alone on the… wait! It's a tra—
The bridge across the gap ahead is destroyed.
| Warden
Ahahahahahahahahaha!!! Fools! THIS is why the Earth Kingdom is so EASY to colonize. You always fall for the same old tricks.
| Haru
This guy needs to be taught some humility.
| Tyro
The Earth Kingdom has suffered under the yolk of this tyranny for too long. I want to take him down as much as you do, but we'll have to find another way across the gap.
The earthbenders return to the Prison Pier for more stone supplies.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Just hold on a minute. We've got a lot going on here, but your request is important to us. [After a while.] Here's your requisition order. Use it wisely. We're running low ourselves. Maybe come back later once we get another shipment in.
Armed with more rocks, the group travels back to the Terrace Crossing.
| Tyro
We didn't have all this stone last time around. Why don't we…?
[Narration: Tyro and Haru concentrate. The stone supplies rearrange into a bridge.]
| Tyro
Are you ready for this, son?
| Haru
I'm more worried about you. You endured this man's brutality for years. Are you sure you're ready for this?
| Tyro
I was complacent for far too long. With the help of Katara and the Avatar, I've awoken, as if from a long sleep. Now that I'm awake, there's no chance I will ever—
| Warden
A bridge. How resourceful. Well? Are you coming?
The team crosses the stone bridge to the Warden's Terrace.
| Tyro
Alright, son. This is it.
| Haru
Let's get him before—
| Goro
Too late.
| Warden
Oh, my.
The heroes are confronted by the Warden, Goro, and Juro.
| Warden
When are you Dirt Throwing Dogs going to learn your place?!! The Fire Nation have a RIGHT to this land. The whole world is out of balance, and only Ozai can bring ORDER to—
| Tyro
[Angrily.] You have the gall to say that after meeting the Avatar first hand?
| Goro
That bald little elephant-rat is not the Avatar! He's much too young!
| Juro
[Thoughtful.] The REAL Avatar would be over 100 years old now.
The earthbenders defeat the Warden's team after a hard battle.
| Haru
Avatar or not, Aang really helped us out in a way only the Avatar could have.
| Tyro
It doesn't matter.
| Haru
[Surprised.] Hunh?
| Tyro
He did help us… In the biggest way anyone could have. He helped us to help ourselves. If everyone did that, the world wouldn't need saviors.
| Haru
[Thoughtful.] Maybe THAT is the purpose of the Avatar: to awaken the savior within us. So that we can save ourselves.
| Goro and Juro
[Weakened.] Ungh!
| Warden
You… can't… defeat ME! I'm the warden! This place is—
[Narration: Tyro flicks a single piece of coal at the warden, striking the center of his forehead.
| Warden
*Uuuuuuuhhhhhh!*
| Haru
We did it. The platform is OURS!
| Tyro
We've lost a lot of friends along the road, but war is never a pleasant affair. I hoped to spare you from all of this, Haru… … but in the end… I'm glad you were here with me for this moment.
| Haru
Me too, dad.
| Tyro
I'm proud of you, son. You proved yourself as a soldier today.
| Haru
That… means a lot. What do we do now?
| Tyro
Let's report back to the remaining Earth Kingdom soldiers back at the pier.
The group moves back to the Prison Pier.
| Tyro
We've defeated the warden.
| Boqin
This is good news… Ungh! It… still hurts when I move too fast… …But this is cause to celebrate. You have achieved the impossible, and the Earth Kingdom extends its gratitude to you for your hard work and sacrifice. There are still Fire Nation holdouts in corners of the rig, and we can't count on there being no reinforcements arriving… …but I suggest you head home to your family.
| Tyro
Haru… I really want to see your mother. I miss her terribly.
| Boqin
Go to her! You've certainly earned it.
| Tyro
[Happily.] Son… It's time to build.
| Boqin
Field report, private. Catch me up.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
Two major events are ongoing, sir. Firstly, Fire nation holdouts on the upper deck have barricaded themselves in the warden's office. Our soldiers report they've heard the warden's voice bossing them around through the door. Secondly, a Fire Nation cruiser full of reinforcements has arrived. They're trying to take back the prisoner holding area, and our soldiers are desperately short on supplies.
| Boqin
Hmmm. If we go after the reinforcements, the warden might have a chance to escape. But if we go after the warden, the reinforcements might have a chance to retake the holding area.
| Earth Kingdom Soldier
So… which one do we start with?
End of the mission, though the battles can be fought again.
