The Tiger Monkey Triad is an organized crime unit in Republic City run by Quiyue. The triad consists solely of women, and has a particular focus on Satomobiles and motor racing.[1]
History[]
The Tiger Monkey Triad is heavily involved in Republic City's automobile scene. They are known for tunnel racing in the Republic City underground alongside the Badgermole Triad and the Spider Cat Triad. Outside of racing, they make their money by stealing vehicles and then selling them on the black market.[1] All members of the triad are considered experts in everything relating to motor vehicles, including racing, stealing, trading, modifying, and inventing.[2]
The triad do not run the races in the underground, mostly because it would be too much hassle for them. However, they still feel a sense of ownership over the races. This led them to be ready to do whatever it took to protect them from outside threats when Kyoko, CEO of the Harmony Park Corporation, planned to have the Republic City Police crack down on the races and stamp out competition for her legal, above ground races. They were happy to keep the Badgermole Triad running things underground, as long as everything was smooth and profitable.[2] However, a further complication presented itself for the triad, with their leader, Quiyue, actually being the older sister of Kyoko. Quiyue still cared about her sister, but equally did not want to see anyone else to be hurt by her.[1]
Organization[]
Like many triads, the Tiger Monkeys are under the authority of a respected leader, Quiyue. They also have an established second-in-command position, presently held by Zolzayaa.
While the Tiger Monkeys do not recruit from benders of a specific element, or people of a certain national heritage, they are unique in recruiting only women to their group.[1]
They keep their numbers small, as they have an initiation test in which a new member must build their own vehicle from scratch with stolen materials, and must also beat at least one of the current members of the triad in a race.[2]
The triad is not unnecessarily violent, but they are not afraid to protect themselves and their interests if need be. The group largely keeps to themselves, and is suspicious of outsiders.[1]
Headquarters[]
Most of the group lives on the outskirts of Republic City.[2] The Tiger Monkeys have a stylish loft in Harmony Park. It suits them to be in the beating heart of Republic City nightlife, as they value comfort over space. They spend their time between the loft and the garage when they are not racing. The loft is strictly off-limits for its business, with anything illegal being run through their garage.
Their garage is unique in that it also doubles as an art gallery of sorts for automobile enthusiasts. This blend of art, business, and crime makes it exceedingly hard for the Republic City Police to pin anything on the triad. Once a month, the Tiger Monkeys sell tickets to an automobile showing, wherein they show off machines-turned-works-of-art that they have created. After the show, they take them apart and start all over again. Tickets to these events are quite sought after amongst automobile enthusiasts, and the show brings in enough money for the Tiger Monkeys to buy materials in quantities too difficult to steal. Some of their inventions have included an automobile made entirely out of ice, an automobile that camouflages to its surroundings, and an automobile that can drive straight up vertical walls.[3]
