  • Hello. I'm new to this wiki (although not wikis in general).

I've started binge watch Avatar, and I have some questions

If there are spirits of Sea and Moon, then does that mean there are spirits of the sun, earth and sky/wind?

Yes, I know Air/Earth/Firebenders didn't learn bending from spirits like Waterbendesr did, but wouldn't their sorces (Air, Earth and sun) need spirits as well?

    • I don't know about your progress on the show, but in the episode "The Great Divide" earth spirits have been mentioned and are said to have created the canyon / to be responsible for its state. Other than that instance, I don't think earth/fire/air spirits have been mentioned, neither in A:TLA, TLoK or the comics.

I'm over a quarter of the way through "Earth" but I've already spoiled alot of the shows law for myself (mostly by accident) I know anout how Air/Firebenders learned bending, I know about the Lion Turtles and I know Zuko joins Aang.

But yes. I do recall now Earth spirits being mentioned.

Y'know, I always assumed the joke there was that his explanation was obviously wrong & superstitious--though not necessarily that earth spirits don't exist--but apparently the ice spring was caused by spirits, so now I'm not so sure.

    • It seemed pretty clear to me that the guide staged the rockslide in order to make himself look heroic.  It was scary and could have been genuinely dangerous if there hadn't been an earthbender present; but it was also easy for him to deflect and a bit too conveniently timed.

On the other hand: General Old Iron and the crabby crag were definitely real.

    • ran and shaw might be considered the "sun spirits" but there's not really any clear evidence

    • Ran and Shaw are the final two dragons as of A:TLA. They are not spirits as far as I am aware.

you're probably right, but i always just assumed that ran and shaw were apart of the spirit world and these were their mortal forms, considering how they're so much bigger than any of the other dragons we've seen. since the ocean and moon were originally spirits that manifested themselves in the form of koi fish, i assumed the same with them but i'm not really sure haha

    • That’s quite a good theory actually. Although I’m pretty sure they are just ancient dragons if was the case then that would be really interesting.

    • One could argue there are Spirits of everything; we just haven't seen them. There maybe Spirits of Sun, Earth, Wind, Forests (There was a Panda that was the Spirit of at least one Forest), Springs, Night, Seasons, Lakes, Dreams, etc.

If there is a Spirit of Faces (Mother of Faces) then there are plenty of Spirits. Wouldn't mind seeing more. Spirit of Dreams could be fun.

    • I would picture a spirit of dreams as a huge figure, the size of the mother of faces, draped in a huge purple coat. It would have a silhouette underneath but no physical form so you could just walk through it. It would also be genderless.

    • Well, the thing about designing a "Spirit of Dreams" is that it almost literally could look like whatever you want it to. It could look like something out of a fairytale.

    • What if it was a bit like a boggart in Harry Potter? Every person sees it differently. Maybe if it likes you, it appears as something from you happiest dreams, but if it’s angry, it transforms into something out of your worst nightmares. Any thoughts?

    • That in theory could work.

    • Actully, I do have a theory about Ran and Shaw being firebeding spirits similar to La and Tui.

    • I'm unsure about spirits of the sun. Some mythical creatures associated with the sun are the dragons, and phoenix. One thing for sure that there are different lion turtles right? The fire lion turtle gives two different kind of elements, one is fire which the sun rules. Because of the heat, muggy air, and the Earth's core. There hasn't been any mention of sun spirit to tell the truth.

The only spirits of a planet would be the Moon spirits. It would be interesting if there's spirits of the elements, and maybe for the planets? Unlike the other ones like Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and the outer planets.

Ooo I may have a good idea who could be the spirit of the sun. In the Legend of Korra Book Two, Raava is the Avatar spirit of light, and peace. This is good because without light there would be darkness. The sun is associated with Avatar spirit Raava after the last episode of Book Two, Raava will always be with Korra. Because she is light, peace, happiness, and good spirit. Her opposite counterpart is Vaatu the Avatar spirit of darkness, discord, malice, destruction, mortality, action, and vigor. I feel like he would be suiting for Avatar Spirit of Mars.

In Greek mythology, Ares is the god of destruction, war, malice, and discord. His Roman counterpart is also Mars. I'm unsure what would be the Chinese name for Mars.

Also Raava is saved but won't be able to interact with Korra. Because she almost got executed from Vaatu. Without light darkness will take over.
