This article is about the Captain of Ambassador Quin's personal guard. For the Earth Kingdom refugee, see Than.

Tan was a Fire Nation soldier who served as the captain of the personal guard of Ambassador Quin, who was appointed to a diplomatic position in Ba Sing Se.[2]

History[]

Tan had served Quin as the captain of her personal guard since they first came to Ba Sing Se in 303 BG. He watched the ambassador's children grow up and was very protective of them, viewing her family as his own.[2]

When Quin was in meetings all day, he took her children out to a teahouse in the Middle Ring of the city for a treat. After stepping away to deal with a minor issue, he found that Gerel and Keiko had disappeared. Tan interviewed the few witnesses on the scene, who reported seeing a woman with a bow and arrow taking the children. Tan followed the culprit as best as he could, but lost track of the perpetrator at the gate to the Lower Ring, near an area that led straight into the territory of daofei gangs. He returned to Ambassador Quin, who immediately alerted the Earth Kingdom Anti-Corruption Task Force of the abduction.[1] Tan felt immeasurable guilt after what his inattention had wrought.[2]

Tan an his firebenders chose Lowtown Laundry as his central location, a washing facility in the Lower Ring. He set up shop here in order to put pressure on Hop, the place's owner, to give them information about the local residents. Hop had been accommodating so far, but he chaged against the Fire Nation soldiers who had completely overrun his place of business.[3]

All evidence seemed to point to a renowned vigilante archer called Mengyao, as one of her distinctive arrows was found at the scene of the crime. However, the Earth Kingdom task force made almost no progress, and Quin tasked Tan and his firebender guard with finding her children.[1] Captain Yong of the task force sought to undermine Tan and his firebenders on the orders of the Earth King, who viewed the Fire Nation's direct involvement as an insult to the king and his capabilities as a ruler.[1]

Personality[]

Tan knew nothing else other than his long life of service to the Fire Nation, though he began to regret his stubborn nature in his own age.[2]

Abilities[]

Tan was a skilled firebender, and his signature move was the "firebomb" technique. As he got older, his attention was unfortunately starting to slip.[2]
