I added this because it seems Nyla played a decent role in helping the group out and helping Zuko out. Without Nyla, uncle would have never been found. CoasterKing 00:47, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Trivia accuracey[]

In the episode "Bato of the Water Tribe", June refers to her Shirshu as "he" and shows no affection towards it in the least, treating it more like a tool than an animal, though this may have been because she was on a job and "he" was reckoned. However, in June's reappearance her Shirshu has a name, it's referred to as a girl, and June even pets her and refers to her as her "Snuffly-Wuffly".

Nyla starts as a he and ends up as a she? And what does "he" was reckoned. actually mean? - I can't fit it with anything. I'll research Nys's gender - an excuse to view another DVD :)

continuing from above. This is not mole like as described under Shirshu more like dragon-headed anteater in appearance. Where does mole like come from? Blindness does not classify creatures. I'm adding notes for improvement --Piandao Talk 08:10, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

How come you can't do that yourself? Is there some preference that you're stuffing up? Remember to not set to open an external editor by default when the edit button is pressed. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 08:36, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I purpose we just remove the "and "he" was reckoned." part, it doesn't really fit anyway. I even looked it up. 32×29px - Avatar Junky -Talk 20:58, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I'll edit it out and put the 'male' referral in and look up the 'female' one later. Add a few other facts too if I find them, it's possible that shirshu's may be able to sex change. Some species can do this, such as the Napoleon fish (real) --Piandao Talk 21:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Maybe shirshues are hermaphrodites. 32×29px - Avatar Junky -Talk 22:24, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Whats that? Vaznock - Talk 23:14, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm tried of typing, visit my sandbox to find out why, check it out the definition of a Hermaphrodite here. 32×29px - Avatar Junky -Talk 00:09, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Ohhhh......I get it. Sorry, I'm innocent in some ways, yet terribly not in others. I just think it was the creators screwing up. Vaznock - Talk 00:11, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

I'll be less blunt with you now that my fingers are working again. Yeah, that's what probably happened. 32×29px - Avatar Junky -Talk 00:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Well - what do you think - writers error, sex change or mother natures trans-gender?

I sure it must be a Writer's error. Mainly, I doubt Nick wanted a trans-gender animal on a cartoon. They seem a bit touchy, and not much gets past the censor. 32×29px - Avatar Junky -Talk 23:28, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Supposition I guess - definitely Napoleon fish syndrome - though they start as female and become male, the next series will tell

Just a question to Vasnock re roleback - Why? just so I know what is deemed as right/wrong of expanding policy - FanQ --Piandao Talk 07:26, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

The edit was fine, I undid the undo. However, I think the stuff you added to the intro was a little irrelevant; info about shirshus themselves probably should stay on Shirshu - I mean, the page is only a click away after all. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 07:36, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

I reverted the edit because, like 888 said, it did contain non-needed information. I reviewed the edit, pondering over whether I revert it or just correct it, but then I finally saw a capitalization error, and I decided to just revert the edit. Sorry, I'll revert under bigger circumstances. Vaznock - Talk 19:13, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

I was not sure how much to leave out. There will always be overlap of character and chapters and weapons and bending and.. though in this case (a creature), it was less useful as it will not be a key search in the future. Unless of course they appear again :)

Nyla's gender[]

I'm dead tired of reversing edits concerning Nyla's gender. If someone can pin point the exact moment when Nyla was referred to as female, then please present it here. Until then, any gender pronoun change will be reversed, and continuing edit wars will result in the temporary protection of this page. ― Thailog 14:59, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

In Bato of the Water Tribe when they reach Aunt Wu's village, Zuko almost gets licked by the Shirshu and June says, "Oh look, he likes you." Hope that helps clear things up. --JFH2009 19:04, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
I know, and that's cited on the trivia section of this page and on this edit summary, so I don't get what the confusion is about. ― Thailog 20:13, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
Well I guess "Nyla" kind of sounds like a girls name, since it ends in "a" but they make it pretty clear that it's a male. --JFH2009 04:23, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
Misha is a male name, but it ends in "a" as well. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 20:09, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
Nyla is a female name ( I've heard of Misha as a female name too) but I think this article should be kept as male gender. They never refer to it as a she. General Shame (talkcontribs) 01:11, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

We're keeping it as a male, because there is a moment where Nyla is mentioned as a male, as explained above. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 01:24, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
