Numbering[]

Please do not attempt to change the numbering! The current numbering is correct, and I had to get it from the last version by Felinoel. The 888th Avatar (Talk) 03:36, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

where is Hama's island and town?--78.180.7.31 20:02, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Ozai's Beach House[]

Ozai's Beach House (57) is located on Ember Island (20), but on the map these two are far apart. Why?

That is probably a mistake. For something this big, you're bound to find at least one. ;) Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 07:19, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, can't the map be edited to fix said mistake? Just saying, inaccuracies are bad...KFan II 02:20, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the original author of this map is no longer active on this wiki. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 03:19, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Bigger?[]

What happened to the bigger map? You can't even see the numbers on this one, making that whole listing below the map pointless. --8th Mizukage 18:43, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

If you hover your mouse over the dots on the present map, it gives you the name of that location. However, I'll add back a link to the file page so that readers can view the file in its full size if they want to. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 10:44, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Oh wait, my bad, there's a link to the file page already, it's the blue orb with and "i" in the left-bottom corner. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 10:45, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Wulong Forest?[]

Could you please add a pinpoint for Wulong Forest, if you know it? Thank you! Weedefinition (Talk) 22:49, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Scale/Distance[]

Does anyone have any idea of the scale of this map? Even if it was just in relation to how long it took for Appa to fly from one place to the next it would be really helpful.

99.184.76.137 07:25, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

One could assess the scale by the walls of Ba Sing Se. It would take some effort and math but it could be accomplished. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 20:07, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

The Legend of Korra locations[]

How come there is no locations from The Legend of Korra listed, such as Republic City? Or do we have another map for how it looks currently? If so, can someone please link me to it? Or is it because we should wait until we know more about the world as it is now before creating such a map? Luka1184 (wallcontribs) 13:46, November 14, 2013 (UTC)

The map was created some years ago and we haven't updated it. Hopefully someone will further down the track. The 888th Avatar (talk) 22:41, November 14, 2013 (UTC)
I was planning on making a second map for the current series but then I remembered that someone edited out my tiny name from the bottom corner of this map and didn't feel that it would be worth my time and effort. Sorry Luka. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 20:06, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
Filinoel, I have no idea who edited out your name, but regardless, doesn't the attitude of "I won't do it unless I get visible credit" go against everything that the Avatar Wiki and Wikia as a whole stands for? You'll still be credited on the file page itself as the uploader, which should be sufficient credit, no? After all, the goal is to be the best encyclopedia, not to toot our own horn by publicly bragging who made what. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 23:20, November 20, 2013 (UTC)
It was a major annoyance to make and when it was removed and I asked to have my name put back in I was yelled at for having my name on there at all much less asking to have it back in. Besides, I was an admin here back when I did that and now I have other wikis I admin and crat that I have to spend more of my time at. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 23:49, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

What does being an administrator have anything to do with this? If you didn't want to remake the map, you could've just left this message be and say nothing, but now you've made it into a point to emphasize that you were the one that made the map in the first place but are refusing to do so again just because you can't have your name on it for maximum visibility and credit. Needless to say, that's not the best attitude you could display -especially not as a former administrator of this wiki. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 23:55, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

You weren't around back then, I was kicked off the team because another admin was trolling people and no one believed me, then he tried it again and people finally believed me but the damage was done.
I only made the first map because I was an admin and so I spent much time here, since I admin and crat other wikis now my priorities and time lie with them, which I thought was apparent based on my statements. I only mentioned that I was the one who made the map to apologize to the user that was upset by the lack of a current map. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 00:48, November 21, 2013 (UTC)
I was the someone who removed your name, for the reasons LL pointed out: it goes against everything that the Avatar Wiki and Wikia as a whole stands for. This is as true now as it was back then. I don't remember anyone yelling at you for asking to have your name restored (if you could link to that conversation, I would appreciate it). I do remember, however, two editors asking you to remove it, which you ignored, so I removed it myself. Apart from this, LL said all that needed to be said. ― Thailog 00:36, November 21, 2013 (UTC)
I didn't ignore that in particular I just left the wiki when I was kicked from the admin team because someone else was trolling. All I knew was that it just got removed one day and when I went to look at it I noticed my name was gone. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 00:48, November 21, 2013 (UTC)

This discussion is becoming completely irrelevant to the issue, and I would rather discuss how to proceed forward with updating the map as the topic intended. If someone would help me out with figuring out how the coding works, I'll be glad to lend a hand if needed. I think it would be best to get the map updated, or at least in the works, before the next two books begin to air, so that it doesn't become too overwhelming. Water Spout 06:47, November 21, 2013 (UTC)

I agree with Spout, in terms of the ground this discussion is covering, we've been there already. Let's not bring things that happened more than three years ago or something like that back. In terms of the map, it's an image created in an image editing program laid over with an imagemap. To update it, updating the code isn't sufficient – more dots will have to be added to the image file itself. To keep having to do that perhaps isn't the best long term solution. I have the beginnings of an idea of creating a template we have a base map image and code the dots in via the template rather than adding them to the image file itself. That will be more long term, but requires a lot of effort now. :P The 888th Avatar (talk) 10:24, November 21, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, my bad! I thought that was how the mechanics of it worked already. But yeah, I agree that create a base image and only having to worry about updating the code is a much more practical approach. I can only imagine how much work it would take, but we have more than enough users competent with template and code work to accomplish the job, I would say! Water Spout 21:59, November 21, 2013 (UTC)
Yep. I think the first step is finding an appropriate base image. Are there any suggestions as to what would be suitable? The 888th Avatar (talk) 13:14, November 23, 2013 (UTC)
Nothing big enough, what I did was took a blurry small image and then traced each line and then overlayed it with some of the original blurry lines to make it look more authentic. I recommend doing that again since it worked so well. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 03:28, November 30, 2013 (UTC)
I quite like this, but am unsure of the original source, which is problematic. It also stretches out the poles but the proportions stay the same and the locations would be roughly in the same place, so I don't think it's a problem. Water Spout 03:32, November 30, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah sorry, that was because when I made the map I was only in college for graphic design, it wasn't until a couple years later when I started looking into programming and now understand coding on that level, I wish my old laptop hadn't been stolen back then and so I would still have those original PhotoShop files and I could just remove the dots and upload the image for this coded usage... x.x User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 04:23, December 3, 2013 (UTC)
Someone moved my above post to make things less confusing, so to clear anyone's confusion as to what I am talking about above, it is not what is currently being talked about. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 04:35, December 3, 2013 (UTC)
Regardless, it still makes more sense to have the entire convo in order so it's easier to follow. To specify that you're referring to a previous point, you can simply say so or type "@Water Spout" from a couple lines up. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 04:39, December 3, 2013 (UTC)
I was only adding that message so people wondering what I was talking about would know that it wasn't what was being talked about at the time. User Page . ƒelinoel_ Contributions 04:47, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

Missing locations[]

Markers for the following locations could be added to the world map: Glacial Temple, Razor Reef, South Sea, and Taihua Mountains.
In addition, markers / links could be added in the Republic City mini-map for Old Cranefish Town, Downtown, Central District, the Spirit Wilds, and Green Meadows (see this map for reference).
Also, per this preview for the upcoming Avatar: Journey of Aang board game, the ocean south-west of the Fire Nation is named Kaiyo Ocean (though the map in the preview has some mistakes, such as placing the Foggy Swamp at Chin Village, so I don't know whether the location is accurate).
