"Shifty Shu-Hui used to be a whiz with her hook swords, now she uses them to harvest grapes from our vines." |
— Fan about Shu-Hui's new profession.[1] |
Shu-Hui was a former bounty hunter, vine farmer, and eventual co-owner of the Wuyi Tea Cartel. As a member of Fan's crew, she helped June and Iroh to defeat the crime lord Keung.
History[]
Shu-Hui was originally a bounty hunter who worked under Fan alongside Kinmei and Wei, becoming known as "Shifty Shu-Hui" and a hook swords master during the Hundred Year War. She eventually lost an eye, resulting in her using an eyepatch. At one point, the group encountered another famous bounty hunter, June, and developed a good relationship with her. After 100 AG, however, bounty hunting became increasingly difficult as the Earth Kingdom government tried to curtail non-state vigilantism. Thus, Fan and her crew opted to use their hard-earned money to settle down in the Fire Nation colony of Daxia Harbor, buying a farm.[1]
At their farm, Shu-Hui became responsible for their vineyard, and used her sword skills to masterfully harvest vines. She quickly grew proud of her work. The group's farm became quite successful, though they and other farmers soon started to suffer under the increasingly despotic Wuyi Tea Cartel, a crime group which taxed Daxia Harbor's small merchants. One day in the late 100s AG, Shu-Hui and her comrades were once again selling their products in Daxia Harbor when they were surprised to see June strolling by. Fan quickly explained their new way of life to June, before the latter moved on with her prisoner, Iroh.[1]
Later on, June –now alone– visited Fan's farm. After a discussion, June asked Fan's crew to help her rescue Iroh from the Wuyi Tea Cartel. Shu-Hui and her friends enthusiastically agreed, seeing the rescue mission as a way to break the cartel's control over the region as well as the tea trade. The vine farmer eagerly declared "Tea for all!" after they had worked out a plan.[1]
After Wei's llamapaca "Sweet Dumpling" knocked out the guards at the cartel's fortified headquarters, Fan's crew and June stormed the compound. Shu-Hui and her friends easily overpowered the other guards, while June rescued Iroh from the cartel prison. With nothing else left to do, the vine farmer soon started to examine the cartel's tea products stored on the compound. When Wuyi Tea Cartel leader Keung subsequently emerged to enact his revenge, Wei and the rest of Fan's crew stood by as June and Iroh defeated him. Afterward, Iroh convinced Fan to take control of the defeated cartel, with her crew –including Shu-Hui– becoming the co-owners. After Fan agreed to the idea, Shu-Hui took Keung into custody.[1]
