Rose was the daughter of a Fire Nation colonial woman and an Earth Kingdom man, and moved to Ba Sing Se when her family was called back to the city after the Hundred Year War.[1]

History[]

Rose's mother Lei was from a Fire Nation colonial family, and her father was an Earth Kingdom man. She grew up in the Fire Nation colonies, but after the end of the Hundred Year War, her family was called back to Ba Sing Se, where both her parents worked as diplomats. She struggled to fit in with others in the city, and growing up as a half-Fire Nation teenager in an Earth Kingdom stronghold caused her no small amount of grief. Rose hated the capital, and wanted to move back to the countryside.

Her family was wealthy, and Rose was studying to be a philosopher. The family lived in a beautiful villa in the Middle Ring, which was characterized by a dignified quality. A mix of Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation art and artifacts decorated the walls and halls if it was a museum. However, Rose's room stood in stark contrast, with a desk stacked high with scrolls and paper, an unmade bed, and her closet a disorganized mess with a pile of laundry in one corner.[2]

Rose was in love with Hua, a low-class woman and the second-in-command of the Paper Lantern Gang. Rose and Hua kept their relationship secret, but they planned to elope as soon as Hua could get out from the thumb of her gang leader, Cong. Rose helped Hua to undermine Cong's leadership while they plotted a way to escape the city.[1][3] She was last seen attending the Flying Koi Carnival, after which she went missing. The cabbage merchant saw Rose being kidnapped while picking up some cabbages that fell to the ground, and the kidnapper took the merchant's beloved pet turkey duck, Daisy, as collateral for his silence.[3]

Personality[]

Rose never felt like she belonged in Ba Sing Se, and her personality was characterized by her individualistic and defiant nature.[1]
