Spirit Emblem
"Just hold on. I'm thinking."
— The radish lotus spirit to Iroh.[1]

The radish lotus spirit is a radish lotus-like spirit residing in the Spirit World near Hai-Riyo Peak.[1][3]

History[]

The spirit was a guest at May-Jim's wedding at Iroh's teahouse. When Iroh brought Avatar Korra back to the teahouse when she had regressed into a younger version of herself, he played Pai Sho against the spirit, explaining to Korra that the game was believed to have been invented by the spirits, although some did not seem to grasp it very well. The radish lotus spirit scratched his head and told Iroh that he was still thinking about his next move. Iroh went on to explain to Korra that Pai Sho was a game that required great patience, but that time did not mean much to those who lived in the Spirit World.

When Korra grew upset about not being able to find Jinora, she started to scream, causing the dark clouds around Hai-Riyo peak to grow and surround the teahouse. In response, all spirits, including the radish lotus spirit, began to grow dark, with the radish lotus spirit shriveling. His leaves and the whites of his eyes turned purple. Korra realized what she had done, and apologized to all the spirits, restoring them to their original forms and the sun shining in the sky again. The spirit was present when Iroh encouraged Korra to take the wounded dragon bird spirit to Hai-Riyo Peak.[1]

Personality[]

The radish lotus spirit is somewhat dull and slow-thinking, and spent a long time thinking about his next move in Pai Sho.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The radish lotus spirit was Joaquim Dos Santos's favorite design in "A New Spiritual Age",[3] who also noted how much the spirit's expression disturbed him.[2]
  • Bryan Konietzko stated that the radish lotus spirit might have once been a monkey that transcended after being blown through one of the spirit portals, its new appearance reflecting a turnip it had previously eaten.[2]
