This article is about the creature in Avatar: Generations. For other similar uses, see Wolf (disambiguation).

The owl wolf is a hybridized creature found in the polar regions of the world,[1][2] including the South Pole region[3] and the Patola Mountain Range.[4] As territorial pack animals, owl wolves are aggressive and dangerous.[1][3]

History[]

At some point during the Hundred Year War, students from a dojo in the Patola Mountain Range domesticated a group of owl wolves. In Winter 99 AG, three student factions and their pets fought Aang, Katara, and Sokka, who were attempting to help Xin Ming to get some food.[4]

Later that same year, after Team Avatar's depature from Wolf Cove, several children from the village went missing. Search parties tried to find them, but were attacked by hungry owl wolves. In response, Kanna tasked a group of adventurers with rescuing the children, though one local girl claimed that they had to slay angry spirits to save the missing individuals. The adventurers fought many owl wolf packs, discovering that the children had been trapped at collapsed caves. Kanna deduced that the caves had also been the owl wolves' hoarding places, meaning that their collapse had deprived the animals of food and caused them to behave much more aggressively. Later, the adventurers returned to the caves to collect discarded owl wolf feathers for Wolf Cove, fighting off the resident animals as they did so.[3]

Anatomy[]

These creatures possess the head, the neck, and the wings of a white owl and the body and tail of an arctic wolf.[3] Their feathers have thermally insulating capacities, making them highly valuable to the people of the Southern Water Tribe.[3]

Behavior[]

Owl wolves live in packs and patrol their hunting territories,[1][2] collecting and hoarding food at caves.[3] Though they can be domesticated, owl wolves tend to present a rather aggressive behavior, being capable of attacking humans if instructed.[5] Wild owl wolves in the South Pole also hunt for small creatures, such as human children.[3]

Trivia[]

  • In concept art, the owl wolf was initially titled "wolfowl".[6]
