when i watched that trailer of it. i felt sad. cuz with korra died and all the characters were frustrated
i hoped it wasn't true. i was remembering korra's episodes and the awsome moments and i hope it would be happier too. cuz i can't handle the death of korra and the other characters changed like that, do u agree?
hiiii, i know that you undid my revisions on the kuvira article and i would like to let you know that I'm going to change them back because although the original might've "flowed better" it wasn't gramatically correct. if you still want to keep the original then you can change it back, and i don't have a problem :) the reason i added she was because you need another sentence if you are going to put a comma and a conjunction (, but) and it was just a sentence fragment before, even if it was redundant it made it gramatically correct.
you can change it back if you want! i don't want to come off as cocksure, but i just wanted to let you know the reason i made those changes and if you still like the original wording then feel free haha
Hey, so I would consider myself good with grammar, but I am by no means a professional haha. I'm not a linguist - I'm definitely more into math. If it truly is incorrect, then I have zero problems with you reverting my edit. The whole purpose of this wiki is to strive for as much professionalism as possible and I am a true supporter of that cause.
So, in this sentence: "Thus, she is willing to sacrifice individuals and even entire groups, but she is not ready to risk the welfare of the majority."
You say you need another sentence to add ", but". What do you mean by "adding another sentence"? When I say the sentence in question out loud, removing that last "she" still sounds right to me. Is it really 100% grammatically incorrect? Whenever I talk about someone, I always have to use personal pronouns even if they were already used in the same sentence?
So for example: "He works in the morning, but parties all night" would always be wrong, but "he works in the morning, but he parties all night" is correct? I just don't see it.
Sorry for the long answer, but if you don't mind, I'd like to know why it's unacceptable to write sentences like this, so I can avoid it in the future.
it's no problem! i would love to explain it to you :)
so basically there's thing in grammar that we call parallel structure, and since we don't use it in our everyday speech, we've become use to hearing it used incorrectly but it's the same reason you can't say "i sleep light and peacefully", you would have to say "i sleep lightly and peacefully" because they both have to be adverbs for parallel structure to work. i'm not too good at explaining grammar rules, so if that was confusing then i found some articles here and here that might help! let me know if you have any questions :)
oh and by adding another sentence i'm referring to how you use a comma and a conjunction to join two independent clauses, for example "i went to the store" and "i bought some fruit" could be combined as "i went to the store, and i bought some fruit" but you couldn't do that with a dependent clause.
Awesome! Thanks for the explanation - sorry to have bothered you with it, but I like to think we can all learn something new every day and you've given me the chance to do so today. :)
I'll study these things for the future. I'd also like to thank you for all your edits, you're doing a great job. You clearly have a keen eye for detail which is a great attribute for any editor here on the wiki.
of course! it's my pleasure and not a bother at all, i love helping out the wiki and it gives me something to do when i'm stuck at home all day in quarantine so it's always nice that the little knowledge i have can help someone :)
