Maolo, known by the stage name The Paintbender, was the second-in-command of the Flying Koi Carnival, and the adopted son of Ringmaster Peng.[1][2]
History[]
Maolo was adopted by Peng, the ringmaster of the Flying Koi Carnival. He was a talented performer, and became well-known for using waterbending to create fantastic displays onstage. He also had clandestine work involved using his waterbending talents to forge paintings from noble families while the originals were auctioned off at Ba Sing Se's black market.
Even though Anri was close to Maolo's age, she studied under him as his apprentice. Maolo yearned for his father's retirement so that he could take on the ringmaster mantle and run the circus his way.[2]
Personality[]
Maolo was deeply loyal to his father, but even more so to the Flying Koi performers, his chosen family.[2]
Abilities[]
Maolo was a talented waterbender. He could use the "water whip" technique, as well as the "flow as water" skill, which let him propel smoothly around obstacles with a jet of water. He earned his name "the Paintbender" for waterbending the liquid in paint to create fantastic displays onstage, and also used this skill to forge paintings.
He was talented in other skills related to circus performing, such as acrobatics, animal handling, and fire juggling.[2]
