Laoshan is a small, destitute mining community in the Earth Kingdom that became a Fire Nation colony during the Hundred Year War.[1]
History[]
At some point during the Hundred Year War, this mining village was taken by the Fire Nation. Fire Nation soldiers stationed at the ore[2] mine rather than the town itself, which made it relatively safe to pass through, although a few did remain in the village. A majority of the mine's workers were forced laborers, and the others were villagers so poor that they were dependent on the measly income they got from the seized mine.
As a result, many Earth Kingdom people lived in Laoshan in terrible conditions, working from early day to late at night to the point of exhaustion. Any spark of rebellion was worked out of the villagers, who barely noticed Onomu,[1] a Fire Army General who defected to the Earth Kingdom after exchanging "terse words" with Fire Lord Ozai.[3]
General Sheng, who oversaw the village, lived in the former mayor's home, which he confiscated. The rest of the soldiers slept in tents near the mines. After the former mayor, Shi To, attempted a coup with a few loyal villagers (who later became laborers in the mines), he was located at the center of the town in stockades, a reminder to the rest of the village that rebellion was futile.[1]

Trivia[]
- It is unknown whether Laoshan later was dismantled in the Harmony Restoration Movement, returned to the Earth Kingdom, or if it later became part of the United Republic of Nations.
