Speech bubbles are whitened out for infobox images.

This isn't so much a proposal, as it is a clarification. Something practiced in most comic wikis, is that they white out speech bubbles in comic scans. Whether this is to avoid spoilers, or just to remove distractions from the image, I dunno. I just want to clarify whether Avatar Wiki will be doing this with The Promise comic images. That sounds good for both reasons you've said. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 11:00, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
This basically is image tempering, but since it's tempering with the text and not altering the picture itself, it should be ok. Though the description of the image on the imagebox should indicate that the text was wiped out for whatever reason. ― Thailog 11:21, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
I do not agree. I think that the speech bubbles are important to understand the image.   TAD talkabclaf   11:55, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
But sometimes, the way the image is cropped means half the text bubble may be obscured, and can be messy. Rassilon of Old (Wall - Help) 11:57, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
Ah. For cropped images [such as infobox images, etc.] the text should be blanked out, but not for those beyond that [those that illustrate the plot, for example], which are generally full scans.   TAD talkabclaf   12:00, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
I agree with TAD. Shouldn't blanked out in cases like this one. Dcasawang1wall 13:32, January 26, 2012 (UTC)

I was just asking about this on IRC about a week ago... I think TAD and DC are right; keep the text unless it's an infobox image. --I'm The Bos Wall 15:22, January 26, 2012 (UTC)

That sounds fine. Rassilon of Old (Wall - Help) 23:09, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
I'd agree with TAD as well, yea. The 888th Avatar (talk) 23:17, January 26, 2012 (UTC)
Whiting them out in infoboxes, but not otherwise sounds like a good middle ground. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 00:11, January 27, 2012 (UTC)
I'm wondering if it's done for copyright purposes. Showing, say, an entire page but with no text would certainly be an incentive to buy the comic and less likely to trigger a letter from a lawyer. DesertDog (talk) 15:21, January 27, 2012 (UTC)

I don't think wiping out the speech bubles is a good idea, besides we need to understand what's going on and without it how would we? Sokkatheman (talkcontribs) 20:34, January 28, 2012 (UTC)

I'm all for wiping out speech bubbles in infobox images, and I guess I'll settle for leaving them in regular images. Annawantimes (Talk) 20:40, January 28, 2012 (UTC)
I was about to make a forum for this later... oh, well... and, I agree. – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 06:32, January 29, 2012 (UTC)

I think that the infobox image for Bei Fong Metalbending Academy might look better without text. The text is irrelevant to the academy itself, and I find it distracts from the image as a whole. Does anyone else agree? ~Mysteria Femina~ (wallGirl Genius talk) 22:15, January 31, 2012 (UTC)

Did you guys not notice me? I would like to know if anyone else thinks it is a good idea to white out the text on the image for Bei Fong Metalbending Academy. ~Mysteria Femina~ (wallGirl Genius talk) 04:53, February 3, 2012 (UTC)
