For this topic I'd like to address the extent of a particular retcon as it pertains to the Unaired Avatar Pilot Episode. This is hardly what we'd consider a retcon since we never think twice about it, but Katara was originally referred to as "Kya," which is the name used in the Pilot. However, the episode synopsis found on this wiki exclusively uses the name "Kya" when referring to Katara. I know plenty of you think this makes perfect sense, because obviously that's her name as far as that pilot episode is concerned, but that was later changed. I believe we should only refer to characters by their current names wherever they appear on our pages. "Kya" from the Unaired Pilot is not a different character from Katara; she's voiced by Mae Whitman, she's the sister of Sokka, and her appearance is virtually identical. Otherwise she would have her own Wiki page, such as this. I'd suggest reversing the occurrences of the respective names within the article's text, where Katara's name is used in reference to her character while briefly reminding readers that, in this lost episode, she went by a different name. -- N 3rd Street (talkcontribs) 04:19, April 30, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think so. I mean, this pilot isn't canon, the character's name is Kya, and she should be called Kya in the context of the article. There should, however, be pages for the characters in the pilot, names Aang (pilot), Sokka (pilot) and have Kya (pilot) redirected from Katara (pilot). I have always seen the pilot as being in an 'alternate universe' to the World of Avatar, and so the characters their are their own characters, even if they are exactly the same (that sounds like it makes sense to me, not sure about you guys though). Makes sense. I wasn't sure if making separate pages was necessary, but it's a good idea. N 3rd Street (talkcontribs) 19:00, May 1, 2011 (UTC)
Very separate indeed. Aang was teaching Katara (Oops, "Kya") Waterbending...in it. :S And ugh oh gosh I hate the "triggered" Avatar state there. Glad they didn't use that. Vulmen (talkcontribs) 19:04, May 1, 2011 (UTC)
Haha. Wondering when you'd show up to the party! You're absolutely right. I just happened to read the Series Pilot article and thought there was something really unseemly about having Katara referred to by her previous name after-the-fact. I guess it's sort of like calling Aang "Ong" and calling Sokka "Soak-a" --precisely why we should have multiple pages for the "same character." N 3rd Street (talkcontribs) 19:40, May 1, 2011 (UTC)
I think that making seperate pages for the characters in the pilot would be a good idea. It would help improve the quality of the pilot page, and, like Rassilon said, it does seem to be like an "alternate universe" for the Avatar universe, so it counts. We should do what the Marvel Database does and acknowledgeeach of the different types of media into different universes, and that would include the actual show, the movie, the pilot, and the card game.
