Toph's current quote is a disgrace to her character. "I love fighting. I love being an Earthbender. And I'm really, really good at it. I know I've kept my life secret from you, but you were keeping me secret from the whole world. You were doing it to protect me, but I'm twelve years old and I've never had a real friend.".

First off, it was her talking to her parents, who were only in one episode. And it makes her sound...wussy. Her name is Toph for a reason. She's one tough Earthbender. I propose we change her quote to this: Look here, sugar queen, I gave up everything I had so that I could teach Aang Earthbending. So don't you talk to me about being selfish!

That's my ideal choice, but, since I'm a reasonable and open-minded person, I'd be willing to go with another replacement that is similarly-different than the current one, if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you. --AvatarMonarchist 23:27, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

Your first point is irrelevant -- just because they only appeared in one episode doesn't make it a bad quote. Second, how does that make her a wuss? She says she wants to get out in the world, she's sick of being sheltered by her parents, and she brings up throughout the show she desires to be independent. This quote sums her up well. Your proposal is from a one-off burst of anger that is not really a part of her personality. I am opposed to this. First of all, the very quote you're proposing referenes what happened in one episode, her first appearance. The current quote explains her life, she loves fighting, and she is indeed a great Earthbender. It also pokes at the fact that she had protective parents. The proposed quote also states something Toph said in anger, and she is not always in that state. I say that the current quote is much better. Annawantimes (Talk) 23:32, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

It would seem to me that AvatarMonarchist does not have a full view of Toph's character. She is indeed a tough Earthbender, but the so-called "wussy" quote explains her background and why she sought to become that way in the first place. One can simply assume a static "tough Toph" and pretend she had no reason to become toughened in the first place; the fact of the matter is that her parents did not treat her as an equivalent human being, something she was sensitive to and which therefore stimulated her to become the tough-minded individual we saw throughout the series. If she deals with her parents in an unusually sensitive manner, it is because she became The Blind Bandit in a (vain) effort to prove herself of equal/greater merit than a seeing person of her type (that is, an Earthbender) to the world, but especially to the one part of the world which she knew the best - her parents. Hence, I cast my vote in favor of the original quote staying. No hard feelings, I hope AvatarMonarchist, Toph's Fanboy Fanon #1 Fanon #2 http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv319/flutflutflyer/TokkaSpriteSig.png 23:40, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

I am with Metal and everyone else opposed to changing the quote. The current quote reveals the driving force behind the attitude you see in the rest of the series. Her toughness is almost like the shell of a lion-turtle: While at first she appears to be simply tough and nothing more, underneath that shell is a more thoughtful person with deep emotions. If you cannot see this other dimension of Toph, you are not a true Toph fan. ~Mysteria Femina~ (wallGirl Genius talk) 04:37, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
Add me to the opposition camp. I wish it was a bit shorter (punchier) but in four sentences it defines Toph quite nicely. I see no wuss in those sentences. DesertDog (talk) 13:02, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
I am with everyone here. Toph, imo is not wussy. Her quote is fine and fits her character. @AvatarMonarchist, the one that you have proposed may be funny, but it's still not one of what I call "appealing" quotes. ♪Iroha Append♪ 21:39, January 14, 2012 (UTC)
The proposed quote isn't entirely true too. Teaching Aang Earthbending was only one of the many reasons for giving up "everything she had". As evident from the current quote, she rejected her parents to be free; to Earthbend without restrictions, to travel the world, to be who she truly was - a tough girl who could stand up for herself instead of being the sheltered, fragile daughter whom her parents so persistently conceal from the world. Thus I'm also in favor of keeping the current quote. Axiovatar Talk 09:09, January 17, 2012 (UTC)
I agree that we should keep the old quote. The old quote decribes who she is and the proposed one is just her angry due to lack of sleep.--Saphira1001 (talkcontribs) 19:38, January 18, 2012 (UTC)
