Sorry, I seem to have jumped the gun on this one, not being aware how such things are usually handled. Anyways, I created a category for Republic City characters. I've been informed that this category had been created and deleted in the past (August 2011). We now have much more information on the characters, which seemed to be the main argument against the category.

I thought it might be a nice location-based character category to have, since there are several for each of the nations. Also, there may turn out to be more locations in the show (such as the fortress in the south pole), or more non-show related Republic City/United Republic of Nations characters in the Promise comics.

Basically, would it be alright for me to continue with this category, and add the proper characters to it?

I'm not in favor of expanding the location category tree to include a whole array of new locations. I think that we should just have the four nations plus a "United Republic characters" category. It just doesn't make sense under our current format to call it "Republic City characters," because we don't have "Ba Sing Se characters" or "Eastern Air Temple characters." I think we should just stick to the five nations. For now we should include the full extent of a character's heritage in the categorization. Lin Beifong should have two categories: UR and Earth Kingdom. Tenzin's family should have three categories: UR, Air Nomads and Water Tribe. I think this is a good format to follow. Later on when we know more we can tweak it, but I think its the best we can do for now. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 21:34, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with ARG. DarkKnightRises (wallcontribs) 22:09, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Ah, I understand completely regarding the city issue. What about changing it to be for the United Republic of Nations then, as they may be considered a new nation/country? player2start (wallcontribs) 22:25, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

I agree. That's what I think we should do. I would jut say "United Republic characters" though. "United Republic of Nations characters" is a little long and the shorter version sounds fine. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 22:28, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Awesome. So does this count as getting approval for continuing with the categorizing, or does it need more peoples' opinions? Or is there something else I need to do? player2start (wallcontribs) 22:41, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Not yet. This was in a forum before, so we should wait a little while so more people can see it and more users can comment other than the three that have already. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 22:44, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

Okay, thank you. Sorry if I seem a bit pushy on this, I almost literally have nothing better to do right now...or for the next four hours probably. I'm a bit eager to do something at least semi-productive. player2start (wallcontribs) 22:59, May 17, 2012 (UTC)

A category for United Republic of Nations characters would be appropriate given that The United Republic of Nations is a new nation that is separate from the other four nations. Many of the characters that affiliate themselves with the Republic do not associate withor are considered to be affiliated with any of the four other nations. (I'm also advocating for new icons to be considered in the Neutral categorization forum that relates to URN characters.) --DivineElement (wallcontribs) 04:40, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
I don't think UR characters should be excluded from the four nation categories. Quite the opposite, in fact. As I said before, it's best that we go with the full extent of a characters' heritage as far as nation categories are concerned. In terms of navigation, it's better if we have all of the relevant national categories, including United Republic. As for the neutral categorization an icons, as you yourself pointed out, that's a different forum. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 08:07, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

I just have a question -- who qualifies if we go through with this category? Any characters living in the URofN now? Because we don't know the backgrounds of the characters (Except for the Satos) atm. Katara and Bolin Fanboy Send me a messenger hawk Katara Sprite Season 3Bolin sprite 18:40, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

Well, we don't know the full background of every character living in Chin Village or Ba Sing Se, but we can safely assume that most of them are permanent residents. I think most of the people living in UR would qualify, except maybe Korra, since she came to master airbending as her initial reason for moving there. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 20:07, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
I'm against the Republic City characters category, per everyone above – but I support creating a category for United Republic characters. While it's not a sovereign nation with its own government, it consists of many immigrants from other nations who now call it home. It seems logical to have a category for characters from the UR. Annawantimes (Talk) 20:32, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
I'm somewhat confused as to what you're saying AvatarRokusGhost, are you suggesting that we include ethnicity when considering where we put members of UR citizens?("it's best that we go with the full extent of a characters' heritage as far as nation categories are concerned") If this is the case, I'd have to disagree with you. It doesn't seem relevant to include ethnicity or what nation a character's ancestors originated from. Take for example an American citizen whose ancestors originated from Japan. You would not associate that American citizen with Japan simply because they are ethnically Japanese. I apologize if I misunderstand you, but that is the way I interpreted it. --DivineElement (wallcontribs) 23:44, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
Well, that's what I said, so I don't know what caused the misinterpretation. The United Republic is led by a council of five members from each of the four nations, with the Water Tribes having one from each pole. This suggests retention of their identity within the nation. Kori Morishita is listed as both an Earth Kingdom and a Fire Nation character. The purpose of the categories is for tagging navigation, to search within a certain type of people, in this case. It's relevant to include the United Republic label and the other categories. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 23:50, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

Definitely. We know the name of the nation, so let's make the category! I like the "full heritage" idea, too. I can't believe Tenzin isn't listed under Air Nomad characters. Why should this even be a forum? --AvatarMonarchist 19:02, May 21, 2012 (UTC)
