Five-flavor soup is one of many traditional Southern Water Tribe dishes.
History
After Hama caught Team Avatar snooping around in her inn, she revealed herself to be from the Water Tribe and informed them that she had bought a vast amount of food to surprise them with a traditional Water Tribe feast. She mentioned that she did not have access to all the ingredients needed for the traditional meal, but apparently found what she needed to make the soup. Hama served the soup by waterbending it into the bowls of the four friends, much to the delight of Katara, who was thrilled to meet another waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe.[1]
