- This article is about the gang of firebenders in Cranefish Town. For the firebending gang in Republic City, see Agni Kai Triad.
A gang of firebenders was one of several crime groups which claimed a turf in Cranefish Town during the settlement's early days. Led by an elderly gang leader, the group spent most of its time stealing from the town's poor and fighting a rival earthbender gang. At least one of its members later joined the Bending Supremacist Uprising led by Liling.
History[]
The gang was active in Cranefish Town by 102 AG. On the day when Avatar Aang first visited the settlement, four gang members encountered their earthbending rivals while patrolling their turf. The firebenders immediately tried to get their rivals to leave, claiming the area as "firebender territory" and declaring the other criminals invaders. When the earthbenders refused to move, one of the firebenders moved to attack only for the Avatar to jump in and separate the groups. The leading firebender attempted to convince Aang that the earthbenders had been the aggressors, causing a heated discussion. The situation escalated when Toph Beifong intervened and bent an earth wall to split the rival gangs, causing the firebenders to attack as they thought that Aang supported the earthbenders. A battle erupted during which one firebender was frozen by Katara. After much fighting, a large part of the area was completely destroyed, allowing the firebenders to retreat in safety.
When they got back to their hideout, the criminals were berated by their boss as they had stolen almost nothing of worth during the day. He argued that they should finally start robbing the rich as he had ordered, but their conversation was interrupted as Ru and Yaling broke into the hideout. The firebenders were initially shocked, before the gang leader ordered the girls to leave. When they refused, the gang attacked but was easily defeated by Yaling. To avoid further beatings, the criminals consequently agreed to work for the girls. On their orders, the firebenders sabotaged several factories in Cranefish Town during the next night. After attacking the Earthen Fire Refinery, however, the gang was chased by Aang and Toph. In course of the pursuit, the gang's female member attacked Toph, resulting in a duel. The Avatar continued to chase the gang leader, eventually catching up with him at a cliff. The crime boss was saved by Aang when Yaling tried to kill him to tie up loose ends.[1]
Later on, the gang's female member joined Liling's bending supremacists when they attempted to storm the Earthen Fire Refinery as first part in their uprising to purge Cranefish Town of nonbenders. The criminal was among the first to run into the maze erected by Team Avatar to protect the factory, encouraging her fellow supremacists by loudly claiming that their movement could "take whatever [Aang] throws at us". Inside the maze, however, the insurgents were quickly split apart and taken out by Team Avatar and Lao Beifong's guards. The guard captain personally attacked the female firebender, using chi-blocking to overpower her after a short fight. She and the other rebels were consequently arrested.[2]
