The Fireball Trio was a group of friends from Republic City who made up the closest thing to celebrities in the underground tunnel racing scene. The three friends knew one another since childhood and own a garage together in the city.[1]
History[]
Yuka, Saya, and Mayu grew up together in Republic City, with all three coming from wealthy backgrounds.[1][2] The group ran away together after Mayu came out as transgender to his traditional Fire Nation parents who reacted poorly. The friends changed their names and set out to use their education to their advantage.[1] As young adults, they opened up a garage together on the edge of the Roku Plaza district.[2]
The friends also started to participate in underground tunnel races for the extra cash they could earn, as well as for the prospect of fame. They made an amazing team together, with Yuka being a crack driver, Saya being a star firebender, and Mayu being an amazing mechanic. Most of the other groups on the underground racing scene were triads, but the Fireball Trio did not undertake illegal activity at all other than the races themselves.[1]
The Fireball Trio and the other racers became involved with a potential police crackdown on the illegal sport. The Harmony Park Corporation hoped to get the Republic City Police to take on tunnel racing so the company's legal, above ground alternative could stamp out its competition. The Fireball Trio's lack of criminal ties would have made them a perfect group for the company's CEO, Kyoko, to bribe over to her side. However, they were ideologically opposed to her. In spite of this, they were also unsure whether to take the Badgermole Triad's proposal to buy an abandoned Satomobile testing facility and turn it into a racetrack. They viewed the prospect as considerably risky, and knew from their own experience how messy it could be to start something while still being a group of kids.[1][3][4]
The trio[]
- Mayu — An amazing mechanic. He was the heart of the group, and ensured that neither of the teammates took the races too far. He also ensured that they took care of themselves.[2]
- Saya — A firebender. She had a quiet focus on the racetrack, perfectly in sync with Yuka's driving, and excelled in road sabotage.[2]
- Yuka — The driver of the group. They were spunky, charismatic, and not afraid to take chances in driving, as they knew their team had their back.[2]
