Princess Yue Elizabeth is a dominant waterbending master and a princess of the Northern Water Tribe, the eldest daughter of Chief Arnook and Coral, she is the older sister of Marissa Aquarius, the love interest of Suki and the sire of Glacier and Amara.
History[]
Early life[]
Yue was born in Northern Water Tribe under the glow of a full moon to Chief Arnook and his wife, Coral, as the daughter of a tribal chieftain. When she was a year old, Yue had a younger brother, Acheron, who died as a baby, and two years later, she gained a younger sister named Marissa. Sometime prior to Team Avatar's arrival at the Northern Water Tribe, it was arranged that Yue would marry a young, egotistical warrior named Hahn. He carved a betrothal necklace for her to mark their engagement, but she did not really love him and consented to the marriage out of loyalty to her father and to stay in line with her people's customs.
Meeting Team Avatar[]
Upon arriving at the Northern Water Tribe to find Ozai a waterbending teacher, Sokka was smitten with Yue, taken by her beauty at first sight. He first engaged in conversation with the young princess during the joint celebration of the Avatar Ozai's arrival and her sixteenth birthday, in which she was seated along with her father and Master Pakku.
After he flirted with her, while succeeding in making her a blushing and stuttering mess, Yue and Sokka soon began to arrange meetings. These included riding on Appa and taking walks together around the city. Although affection budded between the two, she was bound in an arranged marriage to Hahn, who had more love for her high status than toward her, boasting once to Sokka that "she [came] with the most perks". The two teenagers came to realize their love for each other, but she could not bear to continue their meetings because they conflicted so strongly with her responsibilities to her tribe. He eventually became angered when she insisted that being together was "wrong" and that it was her duty to marry Hahn for her people, despite her being afraid to anger her father, to which he replied that she was not marrying her people out of duty; she was marrying them out of fear. Sokka then asked the princess what it was that she wanted instead of what her father wanted of her. He then walked away, leaving the teenager with much to think about.
Yue cried as she and her sister made the final decision to flee the North Pole with Team Avatar and forge their own paths.
During Admiral Zhao's attempted siege of the Northern Water Tribe, under orders from Fire Lord Ursa, Sokka was ordered by Arnook to act as his daughter's bodyguard, noticing how their love persisted. Yue led Aang, Zuko, Ozai, and Katara to the Spirits Oasis, helping Ozai to enter the Spirit World. When Ozai had been captured by Bellatrix, she accompanied Katara and Sokka as they tracked the two of them down on Appa. The trio eventually found the pregnant submissive unconscious in the snow with a multitude of cuts and bruises.
Upon their return to the Spirit Oasis, Yue and Team Avatar were confronted by Zhao, who attempted to strike the Moon Spirit's mortal form, if not for Ozai quickly using his own bending technique, lightning whips, to knock Zhao unconscious and save Tui. After the Fire Nation had retreated, with most of the soldiers knowing that they already lost and valued their lives, the two fish in the pond were so thankful to Ozai, that they blessed him with both a part of their powers and part of their life forces, turning half of his hair white and flecks of cerulean blue glittering in his golden eyes.
Following the Siege of the North Pole, Yue and her little sister, Marissa, joined Team Avatar in their journey to master the elements. While in the Foggy Swamp under its spiritual influence, she hallucinated about her younger brother, Acheron, who was killed as a baby in an unknown accident just two years before Marissa was born. His hallucination angrily told her that she failed to protect him, reflecting the guilt she felt about his death, despite it not being her fault and the fact that Yue was only a baby at the time. During their time in the Si Wong Desert, Sokka talked to Yue about their relationship and revealed that he was starting to grow affections for Zuko, to which Yue could relate to because she, herself, was growing to care more for Suki, the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors. The two then agreed to stay best friends and siblings in all but blood after the conversation. After Zuko was struck down by Bellatrix's lightning during the Coup of Ba Sing Se, Yue was able to provide more assistance to Team Avatar by helping to heal Zuko's lightning wound and unlocking his chakra.
While looking for leads as to disappearances surrounding the full moon and in response to Toph's suggestion that the Moon Spirit might be harming people, Sokka reacted with anger and declared that the Moon Spirit was gentle and caring, as the ocean can both give and take away life, the same as any of the other elements. While with Zuko on the way to the Boiling Rock, Sokka mentioned that none of this would be happening if Zuko, Azula, and Ozai had decided to flee to the South Pole.
Personality[]
Yue is a remarkable kind, sweet, and gentle woman with a certain sense of humor. She offered hope to others even in crucial times, including a despaired Ozai. She had a deep sense of loyalty and duty to her tribe, unlike her rebellious sister. This is evident through her willingness to enter an arranged marriage with Hahn despite her affections for Sokka. Her spiritual nature was influenced by her upbringing in the Northern Water Tribe and the circumstances of her birth and ill-health as a child.

Yue was one of the most talented waterbending prodigies of her generation, much like Katara.

Yue cares for Suki, and harbored a crush on her for some time after joining Team Avatar. However, seeing that she was in a relationship with Sokka, Yue decided to respect their relationship and backed off. After the couple broke up, Yue gave Suki the space she needed to come to terms with it before confessing her feelings.
Their relationship lasted throughout the remainder of the war; culminating in marriage and resulting in the birth of their daughters.
