He was the 177th avatar and the 45th earth avatar, he was considered a great avatar, being the founder of the earth kingdom millitary.
History[]
Early Life[]
Avatar Yao was born in Ba Sing Se, to a family of commoners, in a time where the earth kingdom military had not yet been established, after he was identified as the avatar at age 16 in 1777 BG, he set out to become a fully realized avatar, which he completed around 1770 BG at age 23.
Foundation of the Earth Kingdom Army[]
In 1769 BG, one year after Yao became a fully realized avatar, he established and assembled the earth kingdom military as a standing force to serve and protect the interests of the goverment in service of Earth King Dao, he was also the first, and one of the greatest, military commanders in earth kingdom history, similar to Avatar Salai (the 193rd avatar and the 49th earth avatar).
Late Years[]
After his job as military commander was done, he eventually married an earth kingdom noblewoman, who gave birth to Avatar Yao's son, who would eventually be an ancestor to Avatar Salai, also in 1710 BG, Fire Lord Zai was crowned the fire lord, eventually in 1702 BG, Avatar Yao died peacefully in his home in Ba Sing Se and was reincarnated into Avatar Guowang of the Fire Nation.

Avatar Yao was also the last Earth Avatar to have the word "Yao" in their name.
Appearance in the animated series[]
Avatar Yao only appeared in The Legend of Korra when Korra saw visions of all the avatars at the end of Book 1: Air, before she got her bending restored by Aang.
