Xinshi the Courier is a minor character in the fanon Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan. He is a courier of the Earth Kingdom, and is variously seen in the fanon up until his death in Chapter 19.


History[]

Early Life[]

Born as the only child in his family, Xinshi's family was very poor. At the age of fifteen, Xinshi's father was injured while working in construction. Xinshi's father was an earthbender therefore he built new buildings with other earthbenders in their village.

Xinshi's father had gotten a herniated disc in his lower back, and therefore could not work at the time. From then on, he took the job as courier in the village giving the scrolls to residents who it had been mailed too.

Over time, when he turned nineteen years old, he was given the title of regional courier and was granted an ostrich horse. Regional couriers were sent across the Earth Kingdom to deliver scrolls. At the age of 21, he was then ranked up to Royal Courier, he would send the scrolls of the Earth King to important locations, and still do work for the public.

Messanger[]

When Ex-General Senlin and Admiral Palartok find Xinshi the Courier, it is at the village they were invading with the rebels.

Xinshi was tasked to take a scroll to the Southern Air Temple, after weeks at arriving at the temple with the help of an unknown Air Nomad, Xinshi delivered the message to Rong Yan. The Council of Elders, sought audience with the courier, and the Avatar. Where he told the story of what General Senlin and Admiral Palartok had done to a village.

Geetsan, was concerned that the general would reach the temple and cause harm to the monks who live here. He sent the Air Nomad to get a scribe to write a scroll of aid/reinforcements to Taku. Geetsan and his people live a pacifist lifestyle and intend to keep it that way.

The resistance should be here before General Senlin, and the Water Tribe rebels came, they would defend and defeat the forces of Senlin and end him. With that Yong Ten took Xinshi back to Xi Tong Village, where he continue on his journey to Taku to Captain Wei, who was still stationed in Taku for another week.

Xinshi then runs past Senlin and Palartok, on his ostrich horse. Senlin then whispers into the ear of an archer. The archer aims and shoots Xinshi in the head, instantly killing him.

Trivia[]

  • Xinshi is Chinese for "courier".
  • Xinshi originally did not have a name in the comic version, he was named "The Courier".
  • He was drawn to look like the student from Ba Sing Se University.
  • Xinshi's death scene is similar to scouts deaths scene in Mulan, where Shan-Yu whispers to the archer who then kills one of the scouts.
