| — Xianmu begged Yama to help him in Chapter 6: The Shipment. |
Xianmu Nongfu is a minor character in Avatar: Civil Strife, he appeared in Chapter 6 as part of an old farmer's tale shared by Zuqiu.
History[]
Xianmu was a farmer who lived outside an unknown town along with his neighboring farmer and rival ol' Shouge. Unlike his rival Xianmu mostly kept to himself and his work ethic was so bad it reflected on his fields. Xianmu was jealous and envious of what Shouge had that he devised a plan. He incanted the name of Yama and gave offerings to the aspect of death for months until the god spoke to him.
Yama told him to craft an arrow from the bark of a tree in Shouge's fields and make an effigy of the old farmer. With the arrow he needed to shoot it in the center of the effigy's heart. After the ritual was completed things began to grow sour slowly. Shouge Ji eventually grew very ill, as Shouge's crops wilted so did the old farmer's health. While this happened Xianmu's crops began to grow to the standard of the old farmer. Eventually, Shouge stopped showing up to the weekly farmer's market and in his place was Xianmu. Over time the townspeople grew worried and two individuals sought to investigate what happened to the old man. A healer and a worker found Shouge dead on his bed. With no clues and no struggle found near the body, they buried the old man.
Five years later, Xianmu, took Shouge's place as the loved farmer when Yama's spell waned and no longer worked. The body of Shouge rose from the grave as fresh as it was found five years prior. The corpse stalked Xianmu from his fields, causing him to run inside his home and in the morning hire mercenaries to guard his property. That evening the mercenaries saw the elderly farmer who passed years ago and scared them enough to run for their lives. Xianmu had enough and he grabbed a weapon to investigate. While he searched his fields he was ambushed by the reanimated body of the old man.
In the morning, the mercenaries returned with the town guard to find Xianmu deteriorated into a pile of remains. They were perplexed as to how that could've happened overnight. When they went into the abandoned lands of the former farmer, Shouge, they discovered his grave was dug up. When they opened the coffin his body was fresh and a smile plastered on his face. The townspeople burned both bodies, it is said, that when Xianmu's remains were burned they shrieked in pain. In the end and sold both lands.
Abilities[]
Xianmu was born a non-bender and used tools to work on his farm. However, despite knowing how to use a hoe, pick, and even a plow he lacked the work ethic to have good crops.
