Backstory[]
The two out of a few members of the red lotus, the armless water bender and earth-lava bender. Ming Hua and Ghazan were their names. And they had me, Tuya. I inherited my mom's water bending ability. I was fascinated that she could water bend without arms. She utilizes these long and slender water arms that made her unique among other Red Lotus Members. Spending time with my parents has its benefits. I met Zaheer and P'Li, both powerful and great friends to my parents. Mom taught me everything she knew, and I mastered her water arm style at only the age of 7. Every time I practice, she would tell me "You have to be agile, nimble, and precise if you are to outsmart and defeat your opponent" She also mentioned that hesitation would be my only weakness if shown. Mom and dad encouraged me to travel to one of the Water Tribes where I could practice and learn more about waterbending skills, philosophy, and its history. One day, she stated something that changed my life forever. She said they were gonna plan an attack to kidnap the Avatar once they would be born. What is the Avatar? Is it someone bad? I didn't know who or what it was, but I do now... She said it was gonna be dangerous and she didn't want me caught in it. I got upset and disagreed because I didn't wanna leave my parents out of nowhere. She looked at me and said "You are still a kid, but if you can defeat me in a duel, I will let you stay and come with us" I was shocked but also scared, I didn't wanna fight my mother, and she might actually try and hurt me. But I still agreed and bravely faced her. She attacked me, jumping around. I tried using streams of water to hit her, but I missed. She jumped towards me and landed on the ground, and the next thing I knew, I was upside down on her water arms, she looked at me and dropped me, I fell to the floor. "You still have a lot more to learn Tuya, you must go soon," so I set off and took a boat and eventually ended up in the northern water tribe, I was only 8. When I arrived I met someone, someone who had a dangerous ability. He was a little older than me at the time, his name was Amon...Amon was like no other person I've seen. He had been practicing a supposed really rare ability of waterbending. I heard about this ability, mom mentioned it a couple times, however Amon didn't seem to be using his hands at all, in fact he was training on some animals and made them cry out in agony just by looking at them. Despite all of what I've seen Amon and I became really close friends, real close in fact that he even decided to show me what he learned about bloodbending. He mentioned that he ran away from his family and stopped even practicing to fully master pure waterbending and focused on bloodbending for most of his time. At first I started off my training every full moon, learning the grip of my opponents, in this case, wild animals, but then, I eventually learned to bloodbend without a full moon. It was crazy I never felt such a great power, it was actually starting to scare me. One night, Amon had returned after many years and became a different person. Before he was my friend, but on this night, he decided to become a villain. He talked about how he learned an absolutely powerful ability, to take bending, forever. I was shocked, but he continued to talk about how he wanted to use his ability to the world. My gut sank, but I became furious. I started speaking louder saying that what he is planning is completely wrong and cruel, but he didn't care, tension began to rise and I threw the first blow. He fell to the floor, and I made a pair of water arms and sharpened the tip and ran towards him. I knew he had to be stopped by me, before it would be too late. But it was... He bloodbended be, controlling every part of my body, but I wasn't giving up so soon. I closed my eyes and broke free, starting with my hands, I used them to control Amon back and throw him to the ground behind me, but he got up and ran towards me and chi blocked me, I could no longer bend. I fell to the floor, and he walked towards me saying "Such a shame I couldn't teach you my ability," I felt so helpless not being able to do anything because my chi was blocked. So... he took my bending away and I fell to the ground. I woke up in a blizzard and freezing cold. I walked towards my small house. I made a fire and slept under a blanket, waiting for the storm to pass. Eventually it did, but that's because I woke up in the morning. I saw a southern water tribe ship enter the doc and I sneaked on it. With all the money and belongings I had, I slept more on the ship, hoping to train in combat and get healed so I could possibly get my waterbending back by Katara, a great healer. I was hoping to live freely without any worries or hiding, I was hoping for a new path in my life...
New Ability/Reunited[]
When I was finally settled in my new home I decided to try and find Katara to see if she could restore my bending with healing. Day 1 became Day 2 and Day 2 became Day 3, everyday I would go and she couldn't do anything. I became so upset and sad that I had lost a part of me, my waterbending. I felt lost and alone and not even Katara was able to heal me. I headed off to the largely diverse Republic City, I needed to explore someplace where I wouldn't be reminded of my horrific past event. So I hopped on a ship and took it all the way to Republic City, making many stops between the Earth Kingdom. I finally arrived in the city and started walking around, but while I was walking, I decided to walk to the waterfront, walking through an empty lot with dark, closed and ominous buildings. I heard a noise, it almost sounded like walking, but that's because it was. It was a group of people saying "Get out of our territory!" They ran at me, and I did all I could to defend myself. I threw punches and kicks, and dodged their bo staffs. I knew basic combat defense because Zaheer taught it to me when I was younger. I was able to take out the 3 people, but just barely. I was left breathless, but I didn't even have time because my whole body got controlled. The grip felt familiar, I looked to see Amon walking out in the dark, his clothes and mask just barely lit by the half moon. He tossed me to the floor, but I didn't let that stop me. I looked up, hearing him say "So we seem to be reunited Tuya, impressive, but your life must be splendid." On the ground I said "Why did you do this to me? Crying, with tears in my eyes, he said "To show you that you can't stand in my way, you think you're strong but even I was able to permanently block your chi, it no longer flows, and you can no longer bend." I stood up quickly and ran at him, not scared, but furious. I grabbed one of the person's bo staff and got ready to use it, but he got a hold of my body again. He lifted me up and threw me back down to the floor, I groaned in pain. With just a blur left in my eyes, he hit my neck and knocked me out, cold. I woke up eventually in the morning, on the floor, and I heard people and hand loudspeakers chattering. I saw a crowd of people talking loudly saying "The Avatar is reborn! She is in the Southern Tribe!" I got up and saw that Amon was clearly long gone and headed over to the crowd. But then I realized what my mom had told me before I would have to leave her. I remembered her and the group's plan to kidnap the avatar once they would be born. I figured out the avatar was a girl and her name was Korra. Korra was on the verge of getting kidnapped, and probably without anyone knowing, and if they did, I sure hope they wouldn't succeed. I decided my journey to this city was over and I ran to the closest ship that was heading to the Southern Water Tribe. I ran in and waited for the time to pass. I was jittery, my heart was pacing. I couldn't just wait, so I got up and quickly went to the captain's deck. I opened the door and said "Call the Southern Water tribe, an attempted kidnap to avatar Korra is imminent, make sure she is protected sir please tell them!" He looked at me in shock but got to action right away. I heard that avatar Korra was still safe and that no suspectful groups were reported. The captain told me to sit down and try to sleep. A few days passed and we arrived, the captain told me that still nobody was reported, so I thought that it would be anytime very soon but at night, where they wouldn't be seen. I got off the ship and ran. I ran because it was actually nighttime so they could've planned the attack today.I almost arrived and while pacing, I thought "What do they want with the avatar?" As soon as I was about to arrive at the city houses, I saw something I was hoping I wouldn't see. I saw my mom and dad, along with Zaheer and P'li along with a little more assistance with other people I didn't seem to recognize. I stopped pacing and yelled "Mom, Dad stop!" I ran towards them but my mom Ming Hua attacked me with a couple ice darts. I couldn't dodge them so they hit me, and I fell to the ground. I got up to see the group fighting other benders, who I'm pretty sure were protecting Korra, luckily they heard my scream. There was an airbender fighting so smoothly, I didn't know airbenders existed, but he seemed to be so good at it. His winds were strong and with the help of a couple more allies, my parents group was brought down. I saw them taken away, thinking I would probably never see them ever again. I wasn't sure how to feel about that but I still went home. I went home and sat down to try and clear my head and as I was still comprehending the past couple days, I remembered the time I met Amon again. I remember what he said, and I thought of something that would help me... You know when you bend you use chi, but when for example chi blocking occurs, you're left with no bending for a little while until your chi unblocks and flows again. I realized... Amon must've used bloodbending to permanently block my chi, and stop it from flowing. But I am a bloodbender too, and maybe I can reverse this. Tonight's moon would work, and I bloodbended myself with only my mind. But this time, I focused on my chi and how it flows. I felt a blockade in my body, so I opened up that blockade by controlling myself and I was able to coax my severed chi paths back into connection. I felt different, I felt whole again... I turned on the faucet and breathed deeply, I moved my hands like I was going to waterbend and my chair snapped and broke. I could waterbend again, I had restored my own bending...
Healing/The Water Tribes[]
In the southern water tribe, I became awed that Katara was able to help wounded people heal. I wanted to learn how to heal, I think it could help me in my life. So Katara, and with the help of her daughter Kya, had started to teach me, and I actually picked it up pretty quickly. Kya would help me practice when Katara was helping other soldiers, especially the ones that came back from the North. I asked Kya, "What even is going on between the two tribes?" She told me that it was complicated but that the two tribes were just against each other and that they get into fights all the time. She also added that it was just like little kids fighting and was stupid, and that I was actually lucky nobody saw or even asked me if I was from the South. Actually, I wouldn't know how to answer that. Mom never really talked about where she was from, or even where I was specifically born. Earth Kingdom? Fire Nation? Water Tribes? Many locations and I could only just guess. I just assumed that she was most likely from the South because while secretly studying and learning about the two tribes, I also got to see and learn some of the fighting styles. I came up with the consensus that Northern Style and Southern Style are both similar and different. I noticed, the northerners fight with much defense and in an odd way, architecture, that's probably why the north pole seems much more unique looking. Southerners, who I spent most of my time with training, seem to fight with offense and have good power. A simple example, I got hit with large waves much more often in the South. So really, they don't seem to fight with architecture, and just do what they can. But either way, they're all waterbenders and connected to the moon and ocean spirits, which is why I have no idea how they could still be opposed to each other... I practiced my healing everyday and eventually I was able to help a wounded soldier feel little to no pain. I was pretty much a master, if you wanna say, at the sub elements of waterbending and even waterbending itself, but there was just one more adventure I needed to explore, one more style I needed to learn. I learned that it is very hidden from the rest of the world and has its own uniqueness and ominous feel. I felt that exploring all I could about that part of my life was something enjoyable, and it helped me discover new things everyday. I packed my things and left. I sailed the ocean and headed toward the south part of the Earth Kingdom. I arrived at The Swamp...
