The Legend of Xiao is an Avatar:The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra fanfiction written by Kassilon.
The story takes place over one hundred years after the end of The Legend of Korra, and focuses on Xiao, an earthbender from Republic City who is revealed as the new Avatar.
Synopsis[]
The year is 282 AG, and the memory of an active Avatar is beginning to fade. Forty years ago, Avatar Korra wandered the world in search of further enlightenment, soon after the death of her wife, Asami Sato. Two decades after that, the Avatar herself passed on at the age of one-hundred-and-twelve.
According to Avatar Korra's will, the Earth Kingdom sages were not to search for an Avatar. Thanks to Korra's sheltered upbringing in the White Lotus compound, she hopes that her successor will be able to enjoy a normal life with their family, and reveal themselves to the world as Avatar in due time. But seventeen years have passed, a year after the traditional age of the Avatar being revealed... should the world try to find its Avatar, and are they even needed?

The World in 282 AG[]
Air Nation: Over a century has passed since Harmonic Convergence. The Air Nation has almost fully recovered to the state it was in before the Air Nomad genocide, and is composed of both the direct descendants of Avatar Aang, and those of the many new airbenders from the Earth Kingdom, United Republic, and to a lesser extent, Fire Nation and Water Tribe, that manifested after Harmonic Convergence. The Northern Air Temple has been restored once more, and reparations paid from the Fire Nation have ensured that the temples are bustling with airbenders and Air Acolytes.
There is no one leader of the Air Nation. After Master Tenzin retired, Master Jinora became something of a leader, given her immense spiritual knowledge, and was raised to a Guru before she left on a journey of enlightenment. However, the growth of the new Air Nation has led to the reestablishment of the Councils of Elders. The Northern and Southern councils are all male; the Eastern and Western councils are all female, while the council at Air Temple Island is composed of both monks and nuns. The five councils (each of which have five members) meet at Air Temple Island at the turn of every season to discuss matters relevant to the entire Air Nation.
Water Tribes:
- Northern Water Tribe: The Northern Water Tribe has grown and adapted to the age of spirits, though remains the most traditional of all sovereign nations. The chief is still a member of a royal family, and it is perhaps the most authoritarian nation, compared to the more constitutional monarchies in the Fire Nation and Omashu.
- Southern Water Tribe: The Southern Water Tribe is perhaps the greatest example of synthesis between modern technology and spirituality after Republic City itself. After the end of Chief Tonraq's tenure, the tribe reformed its political system to become more directly democratic. The tribal council has both elected officials and wise elders, who elect a chief to serve for a three year term.
Earth Federation: The Earth Federation is a political union of independent states that make up the former Earth Kingdom. While the states are fully sovereign, the Federation has developed a standardized system of law, a single market, with freedom of movement guaranteed between all member-states. The president of the Federal Council rotates between the heads of government of the states, while federal legislature is passed by the Federal Congress. At the beginning of the story, the President of the Federal Council is Chunmei Sung, who is also Governor of the State of Yang.
Fire Nation: The Fire Nation is ruled by Fire Lord Zenzo, a popular ruler, though a mere figurehead. The true head of government is Chancellor Seishiro Hitoshi. He is the head of the legislative branch of government, the National Assembly.
United Republic of Nations: The United Republic of Nations has technologically advanced and lives in synthesis with the Spirit World. The current President is Ying Hamada.
Shenjing: A human settlement in the Spirit World.
Technology[]
Technology developed between 174 AG and 282 AG:
- Television: Television began to take off in the 180s, developed by Varrick Global Industries. By the 210s, it became common for households to own color televisions.
- Computers: Personal computers were nascent in the late 210s to 230s, and began to really take off in from the 240s onward.
- Transponders: Also simply known as phones or smartphones, they've been around in a recognizable form since the 250s.
- Power armor: Developed in the 260s, this allows the nonbenders of the Republic City Police and United Forces (as well as being used in the Fire Nation and some of the Earth Federation) to lift objects up to ten times their own weight.
