Neutral Spirit Emblem
By King Bumis Heir Part of the Avatar: Civil Strife continuity.

Taotie is the spirit of greed, and is a minor character that appears in Chapter 6: The Shipment.

History[]

Not much is known about the origins of the Tao Tie, however, it is known to target the most greedy of humans. One folk tale shared amongst nobles tells the story of a noble named Yingbi. Yingbi was rapacious and refused to donate to the temple and even treated beggars with such disdain. Yingbi later encounters the Tao Tie in the Taihua mountains when he's sent to Duryaja province on family business.

The Tao Tie is said to be covered in blue wool, has two horns on the sides of his head, is quadripedal, and has the face of a human person. The Tao Tie lures its victims with the cries of an infant child. It swallows its victims whole, and normally travels to find its victims. The evil spirit is ancient as time itself, the reason for its creation is unknown. There have been little cases about the spirit's appearances around the world. You are warned to run if you see the ghost of Yingbi or hear the cries of a baby while traveling.

Trivia[]

  • The Taotie is based on the Chinese mythological creature of the same nature. Originally, the Tao Tie hunts the gluttonous people but in this story it chases the greedy.
