The Oracle of Shenjing is the fortuneteller of a human settlement in the Spirit World. Attacked by a spirit in her youth, she has been gifted with true clairvoyance and the ability to see the future.
History[]
The Oracle was born as a girl named Lai, one of the first children born in Shenjing after the town had been founded. As a child, she threw a tantrum and was attacked by a spirit. She was saved by a healer when she was seconds before death, although she had been deformed by the attack. Her hair turned white, she had visible markings across her body, her teeth turned to fangs, and she had sprouted a third eye.
Her prophecies were discovered to be accurate by the villagers, although her transformation left her with a severe mental affliction. While she was healed by waterbenders from time to time, it was Nuzhe, an earthbender, who had the most success healing her. He pretended to be a true friend in order to learn all of her prophecies.
After Korra's death, she predicted that the Avatar would come to call Shenjing their home one day. She recently predicted that Avatar Xiao would be the end of a "queen on the other side." When Xiao entered the Spirit World after the Avatar State was triggered at Zaofu, she doubled over in pain in detecting his spirit.
