Overview[]
Giu and Chen have a night on the town, and accidentally blow all of Team Rebel's Money. The two now have to get real jobs. However, their Boss is a very spiritual man. Meanwhile, Kaila has traumatic memory loss.
Synopsis[]
Camp - Last Night
"Chen, I don't think you should be going anywhere." Said Mina, with a hint of frustration, while Chen and Giu got prepared to leave camp.
"Mina, we have to know what's going on in New Ozai, not just live on its edges. I think that, I'm well enough to go back into the city." Chen replied, calmly.
"Well, alright, but what about Yi? He's still out there! I mean....he could ambush you! If you have to go, we all go." Mina moved to grab her things, she cringes suddenly.
"I'm not the only one, who's hurt. You're worse than me." Chen had a calm, straightforward, expression.
"Well, I still-" Begins Mina.
"Mina, let it go. Giu can take care of Chen, right Giu?" Said Ray, stepping out of her tent, with an inquiring look at Giu Giu looked up from his book, with the sudden mention of his name. He realized Ray asked him a question.
"What?" He asked, hopeful she wouldn't get angry.
"You will take care of Chen." Replied Ray, it was a statement not a question, this time.
Giu shrugged "Yeah, sorry, I got caught up in this book."
"You read books?"
"I have a life outside of you guys." Giu exclaimed, marching away. Ray seemed shocked, but Chen couldn't tell if it was from Giu's remark or the fact that he could read. He found that the second surprised him more.
With the sudden silence filling the camp, sans Mina practicing with her arrows nearby, Chen followed Giu out of camp.
Chen stopped, and checked with Giu "Did you get the money?"
"Yes, Chen. I got the money, Ray wouldn't let me leave Camp without it. Now, stop treating me like an idiot, I know what I'm doing." Giu said, marching off.
Next Morning
"YOU IDIOT!"
"YOU ARE SUCH AN IDIOT!" Yelled Ray
"Look, Ray, I'm sorry I didn't think that-" Began Giu. He tried to match the three girls' angry stares, but couldn't.
"I cannot believe. You got drunk! AND THEN YOU GOT CHEN DRUNK! And, you gambled away all of the money?" Mina yelled
"Not all of it, Ray only gave me two-thirds. And, it seemed like a good idea at the time." Giu said, a little defensive. Sure Chen had gone drunk, and currently lay asleep with a huge hangover to come.
"No, Giu. I don't know...I think, you and Chen, will have to go find a job and get the money back!" Exclaimed Ray
"Get our? Are you kidding me? That was like 200 gold piec-" Began Giu, but he gave in after Ray's Glare intensified.
"Fine." He mumbled, he just wanted to go back to sleep.
Afternoon – New Ozai Market
"Giu, how could you?" Asked Chen
"Let it go, man!" Yelled Giu, in response. He was getting tired of everyone blaming it on him
"But, Giu-" Began Chen.
"You know what, Mr. Avatar? Shut up. I know I messed up. I ALWAYS MESS UP. Alright, now if you don't want me to ditch you, shut up." Giu yelled, followed by an awkward silence.
"What's wrong?" Asked Chen
"Nothing's wro-" Began Giu
"Yes there is. Tell me." Demanded Chen. Giu looked away, but gave in.
"I don't like it Chen. I used to be jaguar, an eagle, free to the skies. Nobody could hold me back, but now everyone is mothering me. I'm just...not used to it, okay?"
"Okay, so did you have a job in mind?" Asked Chen, quick to change the subject, he didn't want to stress Giu out. Giu seemed to notice the gesture and nodded appreciatively.
"I don't know...we need high paying jobs, we have to get back lots of gold. Let's just look around." Giu said, and began to walk around the market.
New Ozai Trade Corporation – Recruitment Office
"Yes, you two would be fine workers." Said the sleazy man. Chen and Giu sat across his desk in two rough chairs.
"Great! What exactly do we do...and the pay?" Asked Giu
"Hmm...very direct and...thorough. Good Qualities, but don't use them for...inappropriate situations" Said the man, he had a short mustache, with a long stretched out face. He seemed to be senile.
Chen repeated the question, and the man looked at Chen.
"Fine, boy. You will do factory work, loading...things...into boxes. You shall be paid 20 copper pieces a day with chance for promotion."
"Allow me to discuss with my associate, kind sir." Said Chen in a diplomatic manner. The man nodded and left the room.
"So?" Asked Chen
"20 coppers? That's nothing..." Exclaimed Giu "It would take us weeks to get back 200 Gold."
"Well, this is the best offer today, and we have to take it."
The duo stepped outside, and told the man of their decision. He nodded and told them to report to the East Side of town at the Shaomi District's Factory, the next day. The two were shown their way out, a little rudely, but they were still given a firm handshake.
New Ozai Outskirs – Camp
"Anything?" Asked Ray, as the duo walked back to camp
"Yeah...we got a job at a factory, for 20 coppers a day" Said Giu
"20 coppers?! That's nothing...well I suppose I couldn't expect more. I suppose we can't even GO anywhere, until you two get us that money back." With that Ray marched left into her tent.
Mina had noticed the duo's entrance in their camp, and left the forest, where she had begun to shoot local fauna for food. She didn't like it, but the idiots had lost all of their money to buy non-toxic food.
"So?" Asked Mina, as she walked up to the two. They repeated what they said to Ray, and Mina nodded, a bit more understanding. Chen suddenly looked around. "Where's Kaila?"
Mina gestured to Kaila's tent, with a frown, and told the two to be quiet if they went inside. She resume hunting, after leaving her captured prey, near the charcoal that was their camp fire.
Giu waited patiently, while Chen went inside to check on Kaila. He came out frowning, but told her that she was okay.
"Great. So, unless you're an earthbending master, I think we should continue your training." Said Giu, with a sarcastic grin on his face Chen's chest still hurt from the previous exercises, but he agreed, and the two went to the edge of the camp, where they wouldn't disturb Kaila.
Next Morning
"Damn it, Chen, get UP!" Yelled Giu
Chen finally gave in, and woke up groggy from his battle with his sister, and Giu's strange training techniques.
"What is it, Giu?"
"We have a job, you idiot, let's go."
Chen changed into a work-appropriate uniform...or so he assumed. He had never worked, in his life, and asked Giu what they did.
"What we do...? You're joking, right?" Asked Giu, genuinely surprised
"Well....no...we always had...servants...and even at Rebel City, I mean..I can firebend and stuff..but like I've never had a job...no." Chen said, ending his ramble. Giu's shock turned into a nod, he shrugged, Chen was a prince. He then left for a quick breakfast, without answering Chen's question.
Shaomi District – New Ozai Trade Factory
"Welcome, Welcome, my name is Dao, and I am the Factory Manger. You must be...Chan and Gi...now let's begin, your work is fairly..." Began Dao, he was sitting in a comfortable chair behind a large desk across from Giu and Chen, in his Office.
"Actually, it's Chen and Giu." Corrected Chen
"Yes, that's what I said, Chan." Said Dao, oblivious of his mispronunciation, he then continued on and showed the two around the factory and how they would do their work. Chen wasn't sure what to expect, Giu hadn't even answered his question, and Chen didn't even read the flier for the job request. Dao finally, entered a large room, with industrial machines working away on transporting some red blobs. At the top, near the ceiling, in big red it said "Packing Division". Chen realized that his surrounding co-workers were all placing the blobs in small plastic boxes. Chen, finally got the guts to ask Dao what they were, an Dao simply replied "Dog, Cat, and some of the smaller ones are rats."
Chen had to stop all in his being from falling over, in shock. As Dao, left, he glared at Giu who simply shrugged and admitted that they needed a job and this was the only one who would accept them.
Chen stared at the red blobs, before finally submitting, and moving to his assigned station: F9. As he was packing away some rat, he turned to see his co-worker in F10 had arrived. She was a young girl, perhaps a month younger than him, and she was stunning. Chen quickly checked his hair, and introduced himself as Chan. He was about to correct himself, when he realized that with all of the wanted posters, Chan was a good name.
Camp – Evening
Chen rushed to the camp today. He was getting worried. Kaila had gone into a near coma-state, last night and he didn't know what had happened. He ran into the small group of tents, and after throwing his bags on the ground, ran into Kaila's tent.
Giu struggled to keep up with Chen, but decided there was nothing he could do to stay on pace. He decided to continue his book.
Mina looked up to see Chen enter the tent. She had been treating Kaila all day. Luckily, she seemed to be getting better. Too bad, that they didn't have all of those big medical books she had seen at the Rebel Library. Thinking of Rebel City, made her lips tremble, but she regained composture and began to answer Chen's numerous questions.
"Yes, Chen. She's fine...Now, you just have to calm down...look, Ray said that Kaila's gonna be-"
At that moment, Kaila stirred, and with a rapid gasp she sat up straight. She seemed confused, but that couldn't match the confusion on her friend's faces. They hadn't expected her to simply...wake up. Kaila began to move around the tent, and after several minutes she asked.
"Where are we?"
"New Ozai Outskirts, remember?" Reminded Mina, slowly
"Why aren't we in the city?"
"Well, Yi might find us there...or any of the other-"
"Who's Yi?"
"...What do you mean?"
"And who are you two?"
"No...Kaila, No." Chen began to get up, realizing what she was saying. Kaila had lost her memory.
"Kaila....that's a pretty name."
"Yes..." Mina held back the sobs "Yes it is...now why don't you rest?"
"Okay, sure."
After Kaila was a sleep, the duo told Ray and Giu what happened.
"Well...I'm sure it's just temporary...let me just take a look at her..." Said Ray walking into the tent, with the others following.
Ray water bended around Kaila's scalp, feeling her brain. After several moments she nodded:
"She'll be alright...but I don't know when. She's in shock...fear...and confusion. She should be okay soon...I hope" Muttered Ray, she and the others soon left the tent, unable to view Kaila any longer.
Later that evening, Chen walked back into Kaila's tent, finding her sleeping. She was quite beautiful, he realized. He had talked to Ray on how to help Kaila, and Ray had said that they should say things of her past, or something more shocking than her current shock....that would jolt her.
He slowly crept towards, Kaila, and with crossed fingers slowly whispered into her ears. With no response from Kaila, he looked away, and left the tent.
The Next Morning, Kaila had recovered.
Camp 4 Days Later – Evening
"I think I like our new jobs, Giu." Said Chen. It was a long walk back to their camp, and they always had to walk through the woods to throw off any possible followers. Chen usually staid quiet, but they were already close to camp, so he hoped not much would go wrong.
"That's only because you're by a babe." Said Giu, cursing his luck under his breath.
"Nooo...there were girls near you, too" Chen countered
"Yes, one was 500 pounds, another was probably 500." He grumbled again
"...Oh, well, if you had to pick...the oldie or the fattie?" Asked Chen
Giu looked at him disgusted by his friend's suggestion, then saw his grin, and broke into one of his own .
"The granny, I just don't like the fat people."
The two laughed and walked into the center of camp, where Ray was waiting with a bowl of noodles. They gave her their money earned, and were soon preparing for more training.
"Hey, Chen." Said a quiet voice
Chen looked around, and saw kaila, she still seemed a little beat up but she was much better. He nodded a stiff hello, and went back to his training. He didn't see Kaila's face drop, she had overheard him and Giu talking about some pretty girl who worked near Chen, for the past 4 Days. She cursed her luck, and walked over to where Mina was practicing with her archery weapons.
"Hey, Mina, how are you doing?" She asked
"How am I doing? I'm fine, the question is, how are you doing?" Asked Mina, a touch of sarcasm to her voice.
"Better." Kaila replied
Mina nodded, and resumed her training.
"Why have you been training so hard anyways? I see you exercising with Ray and Chen in the morning...and then you spar knives with Ray...and then archery in the evening."
"This City..this war..it's gotten tougher.
Mina looked away, and after several minutes Kaila began to leave, when Mina spoke.
"I don't want to be weak." Mina whispered
"Weak? You're hardly weak!" Exclaimed Kaila
"No, Kaila, I am. This City...this war...it's gotten tougher. So have our enemies, I can't sit around and pick flowers. I have to be stronger. I have to...protect everyone here, because...you're all I have."
"That's not..." Began Kaila
"YES IT IS!" Yelled Mina, so loud, that Chen and Giu looked over with expressions of concern, Mina looked back at Kaila and continued "If you're caught, you go back to school or worse case: you're killed...for me it's much worse."
"Worse than death?"
"Yes. Slavery. I am an escaped Slave. After they capture me...they will do horrible things...and I won't even get the freedom of death, No! They'll keep me alive, so that I can do their farm work, fix their machines, they'll work me until the end." With that Mina resumed her training, twice as hard. Kaila quietly walked back to camp, Mina was right, she realized. Kaila had never understood what would happen...if they lost. Now, she did, and she had to train as well.
Factory – 5 Days Later
"yes..very good..yes..yes"
"Alright, everyone Mr. Naoi, Company President, will be here soon to inspect our factory...yes, mizi please shove that into the burner...ah, correct, Ney with your hands, thrust, thrust, thrust...yes there you go!" Dao kept walking around the factory instructing his employees on how to do this or how to do that. Around, 2 PM that day, Mr. Naoi arrived.
"Ah, yes...very good..Dao..yes..yes..fine job, here." Mr.Naoi kept looking around the factory, hoping to find something wrong, but realized he couldn't. He walked across the main hall, with various advisers, to Dao's office. Suddenly, his spiritual adviser, for Mr. Naoi was a spiritual man turned pale. He pulled the President to a corner, and whispered into his mouth. Naoi looked up, with surprise, and stared at the employees. Their eyes wandered the worker's faces, until they found the face of Chen, Giu and Fensui.
New Ozai Trade Corporation – Zoi Storage Facilities
"Ah, hello Mr. Chen, Mr. Giu and Ms. Fensui. I believe that you owe us some answers." Said Naoi, looking up from his paper. The room was dimly lit, and in the corner, bleeding were Chen, Giu, and Fensui.

- The Avatar had the idea of an evil businessman/mafia, when he remembered his middle school essay on Al Capone.
