Masayoshi was a lawyer from Republic City who handled the case of crime lord Yakone.

History[]

Masayoshi was born in 87 AG in Cranefish Town, then a Fire Nation colony in the Earth Kingdom. Her mother Yoshika was a Fire National, and her father Suzei was an Earth Kingdom native. She later went to the Law and Justice Department at Republic City University. She eventually graduated and became a lawyer. In 110 AG, Masayoshi married her school friend, Genji, and had a daughter, Bara.

Masayoshi made it her mission to bring Yakone to justice and sentence him to the punishment he deserved, so that no one else would suffer because of his criminal activities. She spent two years gathering any evidence she could against Yakone, knowing the danger she was putting her life in.

Masayoshi presented her case before the United Republic Council.

In 128 AG, Republic City crime boss Yakone was tried for crimes against the city and its denizens. She was able to convince several of Yakone's victims to testify against him in court, exposing his unique ability to bloodbend at any time, without the need of a full moon.

The great amount of testimony and evidence presented against Yakone convinced the United Republic Council that he was a uniquely gifted bender who had abused his ability to maintain a grip on Republic City's criminal underworld, and a guilty of all charges verdict was delivered by Chairman Sokka, with a sentence of life in prison.

Before Yakone could be detained, the crime lord exerted his bloodbending, subduing every person in the courtroom, including Masayoshi, before fleeing the scene.

After Yakone was captured and stripped of his powers by Avatar Aang, Masayoshi attended Yakone's further trial, during which the bloodbender was sentenced to life imprisonment. Her satisfaction was short-lived, however, as shortly before Yakone escaped from prison, Masayoshi was attacked in her own apartment by Yakone's gangsters. She was found dead by Genji.

Legacy[]

Thanks to her efforts, Yakone was eventually sentenced to life in prison, and his criminal empire collapsed. Her murder was a huge tragedy for her family, causing her husband Genji to fall into depression, and her daughter Bara to also decide to become a lawyer and start fighting the triads in the Republic. Public opinion made Masayoshi a martyr in the fight against organized crime.
