Kuma is a minor character in the fanon, Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan. Kuma is one of the few fishermen within Unaraq's crew.
History[]
Not much is known of Kuma's past other than he's Sakana's best friend and mentions when they first met at a park in Iqaluit. He's also one of the five other fishermen within Unaraq's crew. Kuma is also known to be a waterbender with advanced skill but has not mastered his element. He uses his waterbending to capture fish instead of using a rod like his non-bending friends.
The friendship between Kuma and Sakana began when they were children and over time has gotten stronger. Kuma was Sakana's best man during his wedding to an unknown woman and witnessed the birth of Sakana's son. Kuma's parents' identities remain unknown, and is also not known to have a love interest while he lived. Kuma and Sakana share secrets between each other but he had no knowledge of Sakana's abusive father nor that he knew how to bloodbend.
Reuniting with the Avatar[]
In 659 BG, he met the Avatar only from a distance when Unaraq's crew was selling fish to the city of Yin La in the Fire Nation. A year later in 658 BG, he meets Rong Yan for the second time around in Iqaluit two weeks after Rong Yan and Aloi arrive in Iqaluit.
Rong Yan joins Unaraq and his fishermen for a day out at sea, where Sakana with the assistance of Kuma teach Rong Yan to catch fish with waterbending. Giving him the basic exercise of feeling the fluidity of water and eventually watching him catch a baby mantashark which he kills and keeps the barb as a trophy.
The Blood Moon[]
