Katara Pathuk is a submissive waterbending master, born as a princess of the Southern Water Tribe to Hakoda and his wife Kya as their second child and the younger sister of Sokka. She is Azula's mate, and the mother of their two daughters, Amaya and Kida. By extension, she is the sister-in-law of Zuko, Maya and Melody, the aunt of Saoirse and Kiara, the daughter-in-law of Ursa and Ozai, and the stepdaughter-in-law of Bato,
Tough as nails with a strong moral compass and refusing to be treated as a damsel in distress; Katara possesses a sharp tongue and mind; being able to use her bending for combat and healing purposes. She may look helpless and weak, but underneath that facade is a warrior with a determined fire that burns hotter than the sun. She is the spitting image of her mother, Kya, but with lighter eyes and slightly darker hair.
Over the course of the series, Katara and her brother helped teach Ozai waterbending, while Toph taught him earthbending, and Aang taught him airbending. She also helped deliver Maya in Ba Sing Se when Ozai went into labor after helping save the city from a Fire Nation drill.
History[]
Early Life[]
Born into the Southern Water Tribe to Emperor Hakoda and Empress Kya, Katara faced the reality of her tribe's dwindling strength from an early age. However, when she was eight years old, she witnessed three strangers dressed in dark red cloaks, asking for the chief. Sokka, her older brother ran to get their father, while Katara stayed behind to make sure that the three newcomers were comfortable. But, right before her father arrived, the eldest male collapsed unconscious, on the floor. The two children inside the hut with her were calling him "Mummy,"
Even before knowing Ozai, Katara still worried for him and his wellbeing.
Kya, her mother and the village healer, rushed over to the unconscious man and Katara watched with worry, until it was made known that he was only exhausted.
Once Hakoda officially declared Ozai, Zuko, and Azula as members of the village, Katara and Sokka became fast friends with Zuko and Azula, and the four were almost never apart. During the three's first three years in the village, Katara grew close with Ozai, eventually calling him "Auntie Ozai" and asking when him and Bato were going to get married, a question which always caused Ozai to blush and stammer nervously. The one that Katara was the closest with, was Azula because both of them had older brothers and were the youngest.
Winter 99 AG[]
Katara, Zuko, and her older brother, Sokka, were first seen out at sea to try and catch some fish to bring back to the tribe. Suddenly, they discovered a giant iceberg with a child and a giant furry animal frozen inside. Working with Sokka and Zuko, the trio used their bending to crack open the ice and free the boy, who said that his name was Aang. When they returned to the village, and after Zuko explaining what the tattoos meant, Sokka, Azula, and Katara immediately knew that he was an airbender and could help teach Ozai to airbend, since Ozai already mastered firebending.

Personality[]
Despite typical waterbenders being calm, collected, and keeping a level-head, Katara is more like a firebender in terms of temperament. When something doesn't go her way, she's quick to anger with a mean jealous streak. For instance, when Ozai picked up waterbending on the first try, despite it being his opposing element, Katara was quick to throw mean and nasty comments, leaving the poor submissive in near-tears.
Despite her faults, Katara is an extremely maternal person who is willing to stand up for what she believes in; and isn't afraid to go down without a fight. She's brave, intelligent, cunning, and a bit of a hothead, but it's these traits that make her Katara.
Relationships[]
Azula[]
All throughout Phoenix Rising, Katara harbored deep romantic feelings for Azula, which finally bloomed into love following the final battle.
For as long as she could remember, Katara and Azula had always been close, and the fact that both of them were fighters, made good to improve their combat skills. They sparred regularly, when not busy with chores, and also had a friendly rivalry to encourage each other to improve.
During the war, the two had a couple romantic moments and ended with both of them blushing afterwards.
After the end of the Hundred Year War, in Ba Sing Se, Katara approached Azula and instigated a hug and a passionate kiss. This finally demonstrated that Azula's feelings for Katara were mutual, and the two enjoyed a long-term relationship, that eventually grew to marriage and the birth of two beautiful daughters.
Sokka[]
Even though Katara gets annoyed at Sokka's antics, she still loves him
Katara has a close relationship with her brother; but her pride and arrogance often lead her to underestimate him and not take him seriously. For instance, her crush on Jet blinded Katara to Sokka trying to warn her that something was wrong and it lead to her snapping at him.
Zuko[]

Like with Sokka, Katara cares deeply for Zuko, seeing him as an older brother figure.
