Lady Kaihua Kui is a character in Avatar: Age of Kyoshi. She is a wealthy noblewoman and Earth Sage with connections to the royal family. She is an NPC.
In the spring of 267 BG, Lady Kui launched a palace coup and declared herself the 47th Earth Queen. She is considered the villain of the game's first arc.
Appearance[]
Lady Kui is quite the beauty. She wears her dark hair in either a fashionable liangbatou, or an even more traditional fengguan tiara bearing emeralds, opals, and badgermole engravings. She often wears dark green taffeta gowns to show off her high rank.
History[]
Kaihua Kui was the only child of Lord Dewei Kui and Princess Shaoji -- her mother in turn the only child of Prince Huaishen, the late younger brother of the 46th Earth King. When she was a child mother died of a slow wasting disease that even the best waterbending healers could do little to prevent, while her father -- a powerful earthbender sage and commander -- was killed in the outer provinces in Chin's War. At age seventeen, Kaihua became Lady Kui and owner of her father's estate as well as her maternal grandfather's vast riches.
While not officially a member of the Hou-Ting dynasty as her mother had married the member of another noble house, Lady Kaihua was always close to royal circles, and served as a personal attendant to the queen many times. As an earthbender, she was also entitled to a position as Earth Sage, though many see her appointment as yet another act of nepotism, filling the shoes of her father despite her lack of experience. She got the help of Baihu, so she could get a professional sage. One of her finest social accomplishments was the queen allowing her to be the host of the royal ball for the Spring Equinox of 267 BG.
Following the ball, Kui approached Prince Chong-Shan, having heard of his idea to dethrone the Earth King. The prince began entrusting more of his allies to Kui, and she gathered her fellow sages and nobles in an attempted coup shortly after the crown prince's infamous duel with a rogue lightningbender. Kui took the palace by storm, and betrayed the prince by declaring herself the 47th Earth Queen, who would restore true traditionalism to the throne of the Earth Kingdom.
Personality[]
Lady Kaihua is somewhat enigmatic, though others would say she is simply reserved enough to be polite, such is the manner of her courtly upbringing.
