Jian Beifong (Born as Jian Kajun (剑 卡顺)) was the 189th avatar and the 48th earth avatar, founder of the Beifong Family, with his descendants ruling Gaoling to this day, also remembered as one of the greatest avatars.

History[]

Early Life[]

Jian was born to a family of peasants, into a time of oppression and tyranny within Gaoling, his father was a swordweilding master, while his mother had no form of work, before he was abandoned, he mostly spend time learning earthbending from his father, he was eventually abandoned by his parents at age 4, in 890 BG, in his early life, the tyrannical 35th governor of Gaoling (who took power in 900 BG, with a dynastic name of Kai Shi), ruled, caring very little for the citizens, and much about his own personal interests, keeping the rest of the citizens, including Jian, impoverished, while he and his family lived in luxury, shortly after he became an orphan, Jian was assigned to work as a farmer in the city, similar to how Avatar Kyoshi, the 197th avatar, was in Yokoya port.

Shortly after his identity as avatar was revealed in 878 BG at age 16, like most avatars, he adopted the hat that his father wore in his early childhood before he was abandoned, and also his iconic sword, wishing to live up to his father's legacy, he became a swordmaster, training under Master Kan Jing from Ba Sing Se in secret, eventually becoming a master a year later in 877 BG.

In 876 BG, Jian mastered earthbending, by learning from the badgermoles, similar to Toph, it was also the time he met his flying boar, which then became his lifelong companion.

Rise to Power, popularity, and final battle[]

After becoming a fully-realized avatar in 870 BG at age 24, he gathered the support of the people in her city who had been suffering under the tyrannical rule of the 35th governor of Gaoling, eventually becoming a popular and charismatic figure within his city, he then trained some of his followers in the art of swordweilding, turning them into his army in the overthrow of the previous tyrannical governor, he eventually assembled his army, and stormed the Gaoling palace, marching with his large army, led by him, eventually defeating the previous governor in 860 BG and bringing an end to his tyrannical reign, with his subsequent arrest and transportation to Gaoling Prison (which was formely used by the 35th governor of Gaoling to suppress dissent), while the prisoners who were put there under the 35th governor's rule were freed, he then eventually took the throne at Gaoling, becoming the first Beifongi, his descendants rule Gaoling to this day, also, Jian had an flying boar as an animal companion, which is why the Beifong family symbol is a flying boar.

Life as governor, the first day of black sun, battle against Hundun, and death.[]

After becoming governor, he set up programs to uplift the poorest in the city, undoing the oppression in the city which was going on for the four decades under the previous governor, bringing his city to a time of peace and prosperity, the hat shown in his statue in the southern air temple chamber of avatars was passed down over generations from beifongi to beifongi, until the crown was destroyed in 67 AG after the death of Yan Gai Beifong, the father of Lao Beifong, he then eventually married an earth kingdom noblewoman who gave birth to Wen Xuan Beifong, the second Beifongi, who succeeded him in 818 BG after his death, whom then he was reincarnated into Avatar Kuy Ba of the fire nation.

In 850 BG when Jian was 44 years old, the first day of black sun occurred during the reign of Fire Lord Kuzon, recorded to be the "darkest day in fire nation history", also sometime after Jian's crowning as the governor of Gaoling, the Earth Rumble was founded, with an large area in the city being dug by earthbenders by the orders of Jian, while the arena was eventually constructed underground in 840 BG, with simple rules: Knock the other player out of the ring with earthbending, and you advance to the next round, during Jian's late life, the Earth Rumble became an popular earth kingdom event, and eventually Earth Rumble I was organized in 820 BG.

In 829 BG, Jian came into conflict with King Hundun of Omashu, injuring Hundun's brother and forcing the two to escape into the Spirit World.

After Death[]

After Avatar Jian's death and the crowning of his son, Wen Xuan Beifong, as governor of Gaoling, a statue was carved out of earthbending in his honor on the outskirts of the city in his honor, which would exist in the city until 67 AG, after the death of Yan Gai Beifong, the father of Lao Beifong, during a fire nation attack on the town which was the same one that destroyed the original crown of the Beifong Family heads, starting from the death of Yan Gai Beifong, the father of Lao Beifong, and the grandfather of Toph Beifong.

Gaoling was also untouched by the Hundred Year War due to Avatar Jian's ghost protecting Gaoling, except on the Fire Nation Attack on Gaoling in 67 AG which led to the destruction of the original crown and Avatar Jian's statue in the town after Yan Gai Beifong's death.

Appearance in the animated series[]

Avatar Jian only appeared in "The Legend of Korra" when Korra saw visions of all the avatars at the end of Book 1: Air before Aang restored her bending.
