Iruka Sato is a waterbender from the United Republic, adoptive son of Avatar Korra and Asami Sato, and Avatar Hikar and Kensi Firestone's waterbending instructor and friend. He was adopted by Korra and Asami along with Amala, his old sister. He's affiliated with the White Lotus as a member.
Physical Appearance[]
Iruka is a tall, brown-skinned man, with a long hair, a prominent receding hairline, and bright blue eyes. Usually wears a yellow jacket with pink snowflakes on it, a strange color scheme to use for him being a waterbender, while also wears sandals and short jeans.
History[]
Early Life[]
At some point in his first 5 years of life he was adopted by Korra and Asami as their second adoptive son, and he was raised by his two mothers as he learned waterbending directly from his mother.
Personality[]
Seems to be a down to earth person that likes to engage with the young generation, and seems to always, in some way light up the mood with his sarcasm or his uplifting personality.

Not much is currently known about his waterbending abilities other than he's stated to be a bending master and that he been set to be the chosen one to teach Avatar Hikar waterbending, which leads to think he's one of the best waterbenders out there.

- Amala Sato: His non-bender sister, they were the only family they ever had except for their mothers Korra and Asami. They always cared for each other and seems they have a healthy brother-sister relationship, both teasy and colaborative.
- Korra: His adoptive mother, who as a water native person, taught him waterbending after Katara's passing.
- Asami Sato: His second adoptive mother. After she retired from the busy schedule she had as the head of Future Industries, Asami and Iruka spent a lot of time together.
Allies[]
- Hikar Firestone: They've barely met and they already seem to get along just fine. According to Iruka, "he'll be anxious to start waterbending".
- Keishing: Airbender master, friend of Iruka who helped bring Hikar to Asami.
- Yurei: Airbender master, Amala's husband and Iruka's work partner as a fellow Avatar Instructor.

Trivia[]
- He's the narrator of the Prologue, and the only character to have lines in it, which makes him the first character to speak in the series and the third one to speak in the credits, alongside Katara and Tenzin in both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra respectively.
- Like Katara and Tenzin, he's also an elemental instructor to the Avatar, who narrates the story as a deuteragonist.
- He's the first known waterbending male to be adopted by a lesbian couple.
- He's another LGTBQ character in the series, being of gay orientation. Other characters like him are Hikar & Kensi Firestone.
- Although it wasn't intended, his name is the same as Naruto's character "Iruka", who was also Naruto Uzumaki's teacher and friend. This is a pure coincidence, given the intention of calling this character Iruka was because it means "dolphin", but it also highlights the type of relationship both characters have with the protagonists of their respective series.
