Houshe is is a minor character in Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan. And he's also the tutor and translator for Prince Hui of the Oma Kingdom.


History[]

Houshe was born into a middle-class family of three children, born the middle child eventually his parents gave birth to a deaf child. As the big brother to the disabled sibling, Houshe made it his life goal to seek knowledge to sign in Kingsmen Sign Language so that he can better communicate with his sibling.

Just like his other two siblings, he was placed in a school where he learned various subjects and received an education despite being the son of a craftsman. At the age of 20, he was one of the only students educated and fluent enough in KSL that he was invited to the palace by Earth King Gao. An exciting once-in-a-lifetime offer was given to him Houshe was allowed to live in the palace as long as he proficiently tutored the crowned prince of the Oma Kingdom.

Just like his brother, he learned the crowned prince was born with an underdeveloped larynx could not utter a single word. From the time Hui was five-years-old he was placed under Houshe's wing and taught to express himself through KSL and educated in politics, history, science, religion, and a variety of other subjects.

When the Avatar and his friends arrived Houshe noticed that Hui was distracted from his schoolwork. He questioned his pupil only to learn that Hui had developed a crush on the Air Nomad nun who visited the palace with the Avatar. Eventually, after Hui threw his tantrum Houshe was called upon to translate Hui's erratic signing into Kingsmen words.

When Hui is crowned the 67th Earth King of the Oma Kingdom five years after these events, Houshe is anointed his Grand Secretariat and spends the rest of his life serving Hui and the Kingdom as such. He also becomes a historical figure for being the mouthpiece of the Oma King.

Abilities[]

Houshe was born a non-bender but he was skilled in being a good teacher proficient at language arts, history, politics, religion, science, math, and KSL. Amongst the years Houshe spent living in the palace he learned proper etiquette and was also taught the duties of a Grand Secretariat in the emergency if King Gao passed away due to his old age.

  • Houshe means "mouthpiece" in Chinese since he's the translator for Earth Prince Hui.
