| "If I had used decisive action, I could have stopped the Earth King. Kyoshi, you must use fierce action to stop Chin to restore balance to the world" |
| — Gimli advising Kyoshi about Chin the Conqueror |
Avatar Gimli, born in 758 BG in Ba Sing Se, is the Avatar immediately succeeding Avatar Imiq of the Southern Water Tribe and preceding Avatar Jafar of the Fire Nation Capital. He is also the Earth Kingdom Avatar preceding Avatar Kyoshi. Avatar Gimli's time as the Avatar was mainly an era of peace until the end of his life. During his late years, war had been brewing because of the tyrannical Earth King that had risen to power. Due to his predecessor, Avatar Imiq, ending the Great War in 772 BG, no threat of war occurred through the world.
History[]
Gimli was born to an ordinary family in the Earth Kingdom and quickly found his ability as the Avatar. By age 7, Gimli was able to earthbend and firebend. Although his era as the Avatar was mainly filled by peace, he was not afraid to use his powers to restore balance to the world. At the age of 16, Gimli traveled to the Northern Air Temple since he had already mastered firebending so that he could learn airbending. He learned from the current head monk during that time at the temple. After mastering airbending, Gimli traveled to the Northern Water Tribe and was taught and mentored by the Prince of the Northern Water Tribe, Indik. Indik became a lifelong friend of Gimli, similar to the bond that Avatar Roku and Sud shared. Later in his life, Gimli traveled to the Fire Nation to meet with the Fire Lord, who was the 6th great-grandfather of Fire Lord Sozin about the current Earth King who was building up the military and making threats. Ultimately, the threat was suppressed for a long period of time but arose again during the time of his successor, Avatar Jafar.
Appearances in the Live Shows[]
Avatar Gimli appeared in the live shows, Avatar the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra, a few times. He appeared in the line of Avatars in Roku's guided vision to Aang about the Avatar State and also when Aang regained the ability of the Avatar State. In the Legend of Korra, Gimli appeared when Avatar Aang restored the bending of Avatar Korra in the season finale of Book 1, Air.

After Death[]
Avatar Gimli was known to be a mentor to many Avatars. Avatar Jafar called upon Gimli's advice about the situation with the Earth King at the time. Gimli was also contacted by Avatar Yangchen about General Old Iron and other various occasions. He was also the strongest influencer in Avatar Kyoshi during the time of Chin the Conqueror and how to handle the situation. Much of Kyoshi's fierce determination is accredited to Avatar Gimli and Avatar Jafar. Gimli's was legendary even though he lived during a time of peace for the most part. He is considered to be one of the greats because of his influence of his successors.
