Fangzhu is an airbender soldier under the command of Captain Shuaige Qishi, and is an exiled monk from the Baiyan Air Temple. Fangzhu is one of the main characters of the story Avatar: Civil Strife.
History[]
Not much is known about Fangzhu's early life although its likely he had a normal typical childhood for a child monk in the air temples. Although it was later discovered when Fangzhu was twelve he was frequently molested for over five years by his guardian monk. His guardian was eventually ousted and marked with the mark of the exile and thrown out of the temple. This later came to affect Fangzhu's future.
When Fangzhu was twenty-three-years-old, he was arrested for assaulting an Oma Kingdom civilian in the province of Xingwu. When word reached the northern Council he was severely punished. However, Fangzhu's plan wasn't over as soon as he was released from prison he killed the civilian. But lack of enough evidence for what the man did caused him to escape from Xingwu where he's wanted for murder. When he returned to the Baiyan Air Temple he was again punished and even through trial he was still given the mark of the exile and banned from the air temple.
His past triggered memories he stored in the back of his head, the civilian allegedly was caught by Fangzhu molesting a young child. He rescued the child and beat the assaulter to a pulp, then later killed the man. After running away he spent most of that time in Isoro territory in the Si Wong province. He lived as a refugee in Bekini eventually finding himself in Ba Sing Se and enlisting to fight the Oma Kingdom, who he grew to hate over time. While he dislikes Haijun nobles, he's ignored most of their kind as he receives discrimination from them besides other nomads.
Two Months into Training[]
After two months of training with the Haijunese military camp, Fangzhu has found himself more educated in formations, swordsfighting, and his airbending has improved. Fangzhu has taken to carving himself a wooden pommel that serves for his airbending. Recently training along with his bending and mixing it with melee into a wind sword.
The Ambush[]
Fangzhu and the others woke up the next morning to retrieve the shipment that needed to be delivered. They spent a total of almost two days delivering the goods to Taiyuan, the capital of Pingyao province. Along the way, Captain Qishi's company ran into the hands of the champion of the Meng, Gan and his brigade. Who furthered themselves into enemy territory, Qishi's group was ambushed by Gan, when an archer killed an earthbender on ostrich horseback. Captain Qishi's company initiated battle after this ambush and they fought with little to no injuries. When Gan revealed the numbers of his army Baoshou begged Avani to do something.
Fangzhu used his airbending to deflect arrows that came toward his companions, along with Avani and caused a larger blast of air to knock several men off their mounts. When Avani triggered her Avatar State and unleashed an earthquake, causing fear into the hearts of the barbarian soldiers and their leader. During that time Fangzhu attempted to assist the Avatar with helping create stronger winds to blast the enemies away. Gan's brigade fled with only one hundred of them remaining to sacrifice themselves in a distraction. Avani killed half of them solely while the rest fled, Shuaige ordered her to cease the fighting and banned her from confronting them alone.
Home Away from Home[]
Fangzhu and Zuqiu split from the group and went their own way. Fangzhu felt it was necessary to distract an emotional Zuqiu from the rejection he went through. They took the ferry from the southern Tusuzu Sector to the Arboretum where they could enjoy the environment and surround themselves with the calm of nature. While Fangzhu aimed to give Zuqiu advice on women, Zuqiu was suddenly distracted when he saw the girl from earlier at a distance eating food.
As Zuqiu ran off to try again, Fangzhu was left alone conversating to himself until he reached an advertisement about a meditation class in the sector. That's when he realized Zuqiu was nowhere to be seen he shrugged it off and found himself at the meeting point. He waited for all the students and the teacher to arrive for the group gathering. To his surprise the teacher happened to be an exiled brother nomad. This made Fangzhu feel more comfortable to be around another of his own kind. Fangzhu spent an hour meditating with the group and right after he made quick friends with his meditation teacher, Zisaka.
Zisaka offered Fangzhu to join him to the community he lives in called Exile's Refuge, where many exiled nomads who've chosen to rehabilitate themselves have come to trade and/or live. Zisaka mentioned that there many refuge points all over the world but this was the one he called home. Here Fangzhu met other airbenders like himself even children that were born here that could access the air temples when they're older. Fangzhu promised himself he'd return here after the campaign and live in peace. Fangzhu spent the rest of his day here at the refuge where he shared a feast with all the community members, as is customary in their refuge to welcome a new exile into their fold.
Abilities[]
Fangzhu was born an airbender in the Baiyan Air Temple, as he grew up he mastered all thirty-seven tiers of airbending. By the time he was 18, he had completed his training and was given tattoos.
