It was the next morning. Korra and Sokka were already awake. They exited their room and headed to the lobby. The same woman from yesterday that gave them the keys was listening to Korra and Sokka's conversation about the waterbenders on the Fire Nation Island. The woman realized that the boy's name was Sokka, so she ran to them.
"Did you say your name was Sokka?" The middle aged woman asked.
"Yes," Sokka replied.
The woman observed Sokka and then hugged him.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Sokka asked.
"You're my lost son! My husband sent you with him on an immigrant ship and I never got to see you again. I thought you were dead!"
"It's okay, Mom. So this is what you do for a living?" Sokka asked.
"Yeah, well, I run this inn, it makes a decent profit. Now only if your father was still around."
"My father?"
"Yes, your father, he was the son of Sokka. That's why we named you Sokka."
There was an awkward silence.
"So, are you going to move in here now? Or are you staying in the South?"
"Mom, over the years I've developed my life. It was nice to meet you, but unfortunately, I cannot stay here."
"Bummer. I was hoping you would move up here and help me around. But I guess you want to stay in the South."
"Mom, I do not live in the South, I live in the Fire Nation."
"The Fire Nation! But that is where firebenders live, not waterbenders like you."
"Mom, the immigrant ship crashed on this small Fire Nation owned island and a quarter of the Waterbenders left after two weeks living there. I was adopted by one of the locals, so I stayed with the 75% that decided to stay."
"Oh, okay." Sokka's mother started to tear up.
"It's okay, Mom, let's talk this over tea."

Later,
"So Mom, this is my girlfriend, Korra."
Korra felt like she was going to explode. She wasn't dating Sokka, he was just a friend with some benefits.
"Nice to meet you, Korra," Sokka's mother said.
"So, what exactly happened to my father? The son of Sokka, the first?"
"Your father, he joined the... the... Rebels. After you were taken away, so he joined the Earth Kingdom rebels who wanted the United Republic for the Earth Kingdom. He always believed that the United Republic should be abolished because it continued on the Fire Nation waste on Earth Kingdom soil while using a different name. The older your father got, the weirder he became. Sokka, your grandfather told him that he was ashamed of him, and one day, the Earth Kingdom, who didn't want to start the war, started tracking down the rebels; unfortunately, your father committed suicide when he was imprisoned."
Both Korra and Sokka were shocked when they heard the outcome of his father.
"I can't believe it," Sokka said. "I just can't grasp it, why did he do this?"
"I don't know. I'm telling you, he started to go crazy. Not to mention that he left me when you were two, and fled to the Southern Water Tribe until he did what he did inside Republic City."
Sokka continued to have a conversation regarding stuff that Korra felt was boring. Later, Sokka and Korra said their goodbyes and they were off to go back to the island.
