Deng Shan Jia is the chieftain of the Ke clan native to the mountains of Ru province. Deng Shan Jia is a minor antagonist of Book 1 in Avatar: Civil Strife.


History[]

The chieftain of the Ke clan or the mountain clan, he rose to the seat by birthright and took the seat at the age of 29. Deng and his people have lived in the Ru mountain range near the border with Pingyao province. When Gan arrives to his enclave he's led to Deng's longhouse. At first Mo Fu believed Deng was a twelve year old boy. But one of his retainers excused the boy and brought Gan and his team to the chieftain himself where they were formerly introduced. Gan and Deng discussed the signing of the treaty which led to Deng and the Ke clan joining the Oma Kingdom.

Gan took control of Ke barbarians and Deng offered his skills to the Meng champion, this in turn resulted in an emissary to travel to Omashu where the Court of the Clans grew larger by one member. Deng along with Gan and their men traveled to and settled in East Lo Shao Cha. Here along with Yun they coordinated and sent out two teams of four to dismantle the governments of points of interest to tear Li Jun county asunder before they lay siege to Taiyuan.

Abilities[]

Deng was born an earthbender is known to be a master earthbender, he uses his earthbending for scaling the mountains that he calls home along with his men. He is also skilled in smithing and bending iron for the purposes of weapon and armor crafting he along with others have taught the younger generations to bend minerals purer than earth itself.

  • Deng Shan Jia means "mountaineer" in Cantonese.
  • Big-Horned Bear is what he's known as with his hood on, the neighboring Pingyao residents would speak of an urban legend of a horned beast that lives on the provincial borders of Ru. Hunters would return empty-handed with its pelt.
