| — Lord Sojiro scolded his son Chunan in Chapter 5: Thirty Year War. |
Chunan is a minor character in the fanon Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan. Chunan was the firebending master of Avatar Ku Tei, and was appointed to be Rong Yan's master but he passed before he could complete the task.
History[]
Chunan was born into the Fenikkusu clan in the Fire Nation in 802 BG. Born to Lord Sojiro Fenikkusu and Lady Chisana Fenikkusu, the first-born of Sojiro. His father is a famous war hero from the Lu Rebellion against the Yowai Dynasty.
Sojiro earned his nobility status after commanding a field army of Yozei's rebels and earned himself many titles throughout the campaign. Sojiro opened a school for firebending and became its headmaster where he trained generations of children Phoenix-style firebending.
His son later trained with him and eventually earned his master status and taught at the school as well. Sojiro and Chunan trained Sojiro's youngest son firebending when the boy showed signs of being a bender at the age of 4.
The Avatar's Firebending Master[]
Chunan encountered Ku Tei on his way back to Caldera City from Yin La when two akuto attacked him. He carried enrollment papers from the hopefuls of Yin La who wished to master firebending. The Avatar saved his life against the two akuto but prevented him from finishing off the trapped akuto.
He offered Chunan a ride to Caldera if that's where he was heading, which he accepted. Chunan dismounted Huyu after the reached the Imperial Guards of the tenno. The Avatar returned to Chunan with Chunan's girlfriend, Aiko.
Chunan wanted to refuse in helping the Avatar but his father Sojiro scolded him into accepting the offer. He asked further on it but the Avatar gave him little details, Chunan accepted and he was escorted to the Fire Nation Royal Palace. Where he met Yozei, the Fire Lord ordered Chunan to fight his daughter Princess Ume in an Agni Kai.
If Chunan won the Agni Kai he would be allowed to train the Avatar, if he failed he will be exiled. The high stakes were given and he accepted the challenge. That afternoon, Chunan faced Ume in a traditional Sun Warrior Agni Kai. He was overwhelmed by Ume and almost lost but unleashed what was known as the Phoenix's Rebirth on the crowned princess. This knocked her out of the ring unconscious and Chunan was declared the winner. Chunan taught Ku Tei firebending soon after, and in two years he mastered firebending.
Plot Against the Crowned Prince[]
Chunan was involved in the investigations of the assassination plots against Prince Yeh. With his help Ku Tei learned that Yeh's twin cousins Hanfuri and Suttamudo were the men behind the plot to overthrow the crowned prince. This led to their trial where Yozei found them guilty and had them executed.
Later Life[]
In his later life, Chunan's only daughter gave him four grandchildren. He continued to succeed his father as the headmaster of the Fenikkusu Firebending Academy. Before Avatar Ku Tei died, he was appointed as Ku Tei's successor's firebending master.
But before Chunan could help Rong Yan master firebending, Chunan passed away when Rong Yan was six-years-old. Which resulted in Takumi helping the Avatar master firebending. Chunan was succeeded by his daughter as headmaster. He left behind his wife, daughter, four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Abilities[]
Chunan was born a firebender and trained his father's unique firebending style called Phoenix-style firebending. A master and successor of the phoenix style he later trained his brother, the Avatar, and his daughter.
