"Being the Avatar is really hard because people rely on me for everything, sometimes..I don't even know if I'm doing something right or just messing it up completely."
— Chun about her duties as the Avatar

Chun is the Earthbender Queen of Omashu, as well as the current incarnation of the Avatar; the immediate successor of Avatar Korra, she is the Princess of Omashu, and King Bumi's descendant. Though not at all crazy or even eccentric like her ancestor, King Bumi, Chun is a more sensible Avatar; being half-blind due to an accident in her youth. Far more sensible than some of her crazier companions, Chun is nevertheless the "glue" of the team and its core; as calm and patient as an Airbender, she has a deep spiritual connection to nature, a connection which has manifested strongly in her family for generations. Most notably, it is amplified due to her semi-blindness; she used her seismic sense all of the time, as she was incapable of seeing out of one of her eyes. Raised in the city of Omashu, Chun's parents were killed in a raid on the capital by the Equalists; this same accident would leave her half-blind, leaving the young three-year-old Avatar bitter and harsh-tongued. Her uncle who had not wished to take the throne was forced to for the sake of Chun, when she was very young, she wandered into a seedy neighborhood in Omashu and Nyla saved her from a group of thugs; fearing for the safety of the Shirshu, she brought it back to the Royal Palace of Omashu. There she would bandage it up and feed it food, with the Shirshu eventually growing attached to the young Avatar; it would become her constant companion and bodyguard. After moving to Republic City to master the other elements, Chun encountered much adversity and challenges on her way to becoming a fully-realized Avatar; though she struggled greatly, she would become one of the most powerful Avatar's the world has ever seen. During her era, she would personally usher in an era of peace and love for the entire world; though her real dream would never be accomplished in her lifetime, her wisdom and knowledge that she passed down would grow the dream of her kingdom, Omashu.

History[]

Early life[]

Born to the King of Omashu, Bato, and the Queen of Omashu, June II in the city-state of Omashu following the death of the previous Avatar, Korra, in an unnamed year. When she was a three-year-old child, Omashu was attacked by a fragment of the Equalists' Movement, with her parents, the King and Queen of Omashu being killed; this event would leave her half-blind and resentful of the Equalists. Her uncle, the second-born child of her late grandparents was forced to take on the throne; a role thrust onto him due to the young age of the Earth Princess, the next legible heir to the Omashu throne. Though he tried extremely hard to be a good parent for the young princess, Chun also resented his efforts to reach out; she would accept the Shirshu, Nyla, as her surrogate mother, despite Nyla being male. Practically raising the young Chun, Nyla would also serve as her bodyguard and protector for the rest of her life.

Discovery as the Avatar[]

During one of her training sessions with her Earthbending teacher during her teenager years, Chun would accidentally waterbend at her teacher, and would subsequently come underneath the scrutiny of the Order of the White Lotus; having confirmed that she was the Avatar, they talked to her uncle, with her uncle only agreeing if they stayed in the Omashu Royal Palace. While she trained diligently, she was often resentful of being watched by guards from the Order of the White Lotus, and often sneaked out to the seedy quarters of town with Nyla to watch fireworks, or even to find people who would teach her hand-to-hand combat for a few Earth Kingdom coins; this behavior would continue for several years until she moved to Republic City. Several months later, her uncle would have three assassination attempts on his life, as the people of the state of Omashu having grown tired of her uncle ruling the state demanded that the true and rightful heir returned to the throne, that being Chun. Believing that his niece was too fragile to be on the throne, he refused with the entire state of Omashu rebelling against her uncle. Due to his rule having become fairly unpopular during his later years, he was forced off the throne by the state's people, and replaced with his extremely powerful niece, Princess Chun. Proving to be a bright mind, the young princess having been blessed with a shrewd mind, she rarely-if-ever did anything without a factual reason; on the rare event that she did something without a reason, was when she was pressed for a solution, and hadn't found a solution to a problem.

Moving to Republic City[]

Eventually though, she had to move to Republic City to find an airbending teacher, as well as teacher for the elements of water and fire, having already mastered earthbending, her native element at the age of ten; though her uncle was largely against it; due to her partial blindness, she was stubborn and firm in regards to her decision, leaving her trusted childhood friend, Azure, in charge of Omashu while she was away. Azure insisted on Chun taking guards, which she did reluctantly; though she also brought her Shirshu mount, Nyla, to the city. Greeted upon disembarking by scores of curious people, they stared at her with curiosity in their eyes, with Nyla snarling at anybody who got too close; ultimately, her position as a Queen was revealed when her guards disembarked and called her by the title of "Your Highness".

Encountering the White Lotus[]

While sitting down in a tea shop, she encountered a member of the White Lotus, agreeing to play a game of Pai Sho with him; while in the middle of the game, her guards brought something important to her attention and she left the tea shop after paying for her tea. While walking down to the street to saddle her Shirshu, Nyla, Chun`s personal guards were attacked by angry and violent protesters marching in the streets; worrying for their safety, Chun threw off her royal robes, having put on suitable fighting clothes underneath her royal robes. Proceeding to chi-block all of the violent protesters she could in her fighting range, with the rest fleeing from the crime scene; the White Lotus personally captured the rest of the violent protesters who had fled from Chun`s effective battle range and turned them into the police. Helping her personal guards into the tea shop, where Chun treated them herself with an herbal mixture she had made herself; after they recovered from the attacks on themself, they left to the stable where Chun`s mount, Nyla, had been left. Leaving the city`s down-town area, they walked together as a group to the countryside of the city, where a large mansion had been built; this mansion would house them for the continuation of Chun`s training.

Personality[]

During her childhood, Chun was a extremely bitter person, having been blinded in one eye during her early youth; she was also fiercely independent and abhorred the protective nature of her uncle, and rejected his supposed "kind" actions, seeing them as useless just like her uncle. The concept of good luck and luck in general was something that she didn`t believe, as despite being a person of power (in her case, a Princess), she was just coddled for her position, and many people believed that she couldn`t be a good Avatar due to being half-blind; this mindset would make her drastically different from all of the previous Avatar`s who had become before her. Yet, she maintained a humble nature, and was spiritually connected to the natural world, most people were not; seeing her bending as simply an extension of herself, with her handicap of partial-blindness allowing her to communicate more deeply with her native element.
