| "I'm about a hundred and fifty-years-old, I served my life sentence but they claimed sorcery and said that I hexed a guard or two and gave me more years. They want me to die here." |
| — Buxiu answered Senlin's question in Chapter 5: Thirty Year War. |
Buxiu is a minor character in the fanon Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan.
History[]
Not much is known of Buxiu other than what he claims, Buxiu gave up his life of crime to join an air temple as an oblate. He became a part of the Northern Air Temple in the Gangdise Shan mountain range.
It is unclear how he ended up in the cell within the Royal Prison of Ba Sing Se. Buxiu only reveals to Senlin that he was an oblate. While he was a highly respected oblate Buxiu often spent time with the Baiyan Council of Elders.
From their culture, he learned that the Council of Elders culturally extended their life spans through an assortment of rituals and other things like diet. When he first meets Senlin he's a hundred and fifty years old. He mentioned that the guards continuously get weird because they think he finally died but yet he still breathes.
He was supposed to leave after his life sentence ended fifteen years ago, but one of the guards claimed he hexed the guard with sorcery and was given another twenty years. When he met Senlin he explains parts of his life story to him before explaining how longevity worked.
Buxiu said the body naturally stopped repairing itself after a specific age. Buxiu said that the Air Nomads believed with maintaining your physical and mental states, and performed specific rituals you could slow your aging down.
Senlin mentioned to Buxiu about a folktale his dad used to tell him about, Tieguai the Immortal. A supposed thousand or four-thousand-year-old assassin that only appears to murder oppressive rulers. One who's mastered the art of longevity and stealth, he who hides in plain sight.
Abilities[]
Buxiu was born a non-bender but knew how to fight with a bo staff and was a self-proclaimed master with the weapon. He also knew longevity and claimed to have lived for over one-hundred-and-fifty-years-old.
Appearances[]
Book Two: Water[]
Book Three: Earth[]
Trivia[]
- Buxiu means "immortal" in Chinese.
- In the original Buxiu didn't exist, I messed up the timeline of the story and in the rewritten version created Buxiu as an explanation to how Senlin learned to live so long.
