The 55nd Earth King, also known as the 1st Earth Emperor, born Bonzu, is the current ruler of the Earth Kingdom. For most of his early reign he was a minor, with the true power residing with the city's Grand Secretariat and Regent. For the few weeks that he regained full power following his 21st birthday, he attempted to stop the advancing United Forces that were invading the Earth Kingdom. He was ultimately forced to flee Ba Sing Se after President-General Bokun laid siege and subsequently captured the city.
Bonzu fled to Omashu, where he joined forces with the Sandbender Tribes and the King of Omashu to take back Ba Sing Se. After the fall of Republic City, Bonzu returned to take his rightful place as Earth King. Adopting a more nationalist and aggressive policy to exert his dominance over the Earth Kingdom, he crowned himself the first Earth Emperor soon after. Following the Second Rebellion of Ba Sing Se, Bonzu finally democratized the Earth Kingdom after years of tyranny and afterward tried his best to be a strong and benevolent ruler for his people.
Unlike many members of the Hou-Ting Dynasty, Bonzu was a skilled earthbender, mastering the art. However, he rarely used his earthbending for combat, and instead used it for art, similar to how Huan used metalbending to create metal sculptures.
