History[]

Early life[]

Bingwen was born on a private vessel of the Fire Nation noblewoman, Lady Gloucester, and one of sixteen Northern Water Tribe`s tribal princesses, Princess Guinevere; while returning from a vacation, the young Bingwen (three at the time) along with her parents were relaxing on their voyage During their voyage back home to their polar home, they were attacked by the Southern Raiders, having been mistaken for an enemy ship; having murdered Bingwen`s parents, they grabbed the young Bingwen. While attempting to sail away from the Southern Water Tribe, the Píngjìng clan`s firebenders burned the ship to ashes, and stranded the Southern Raiders; they would finish that by murdering the Southern Raiders who were stranded in the Southern Water Tribe. The Píngjìng clan however didn`t have enough resources to take care of the young child, and appointed Ashuna to take care of the young three-year-old; Ashuna reluctantly accepted, though she would come to love the lively waterbender in years to come. When she was ten, Bingwen watched as the Southern Raiders, who had also killed her parents, ransack the village in search of the last waterbender; though she was also a waterbender, she was not discovered. When Bingwen was threatened by one of the Southern Raiders, he recognized her, Lady Gloucester being his daughter; he would leave, but not before promising to come back for her, and take her back to the Fire Nation. Heavily traumatized by the events, Bingwen would become withdrawn and harsh towards other people; developing an harsh exterior so that nobody would come near her again. Bingwen would become the "mother" to the orphaned children of the Southern Water Tribe, teaching them spiritual techniques, as well as evasive maneuvers; despite her blindness, Bingwen was one of the most competent hand-to-hand combatant of the Southern Water Tribe, as well as an excellent acrobatic. While traveling with Aang, Bingwen improved significantly as a warrior and would become one of the greatest waterbenders in either of the Water Tribes, alongside Katara.

Winter 99 AG[]

While out fishing with Sokka and Katara, Bingwen detected a slow pulse of what she believed to be low-resonance spiritual energy; this pulse of spiritual energy would led the trio to discover Avatar Aang, the last airbender of the Air Nomads. The boat having been crushed, they were forced to fly how on Appa, while Bingwen was uneasy about flying on Appa, Sokka straight-out refused; eventually, they would climb onto Appa. Prince Zuko would later attack the Southern Water Tribe, with Bingwen having detected the ship`s presence through the water underneath the ship; she was ousted as a Northern Water Tribe Tribal Princess, as the daughter of an "nobleman" of high prestige and Princess Guinevere. Wary of the Prince, Bingwen accidentally revealed herself as a waterbender by bending the water underneath the ship`s soldiers, and tossing them in the icy waters. From this series of events, they would make their escape, flying away on Appa. While flying to Aang`s home, the young Airbender questioned Bingwen on her blindness; despite being offended at the question, Bingwen told him and the others of how she fought, using the slightest shred of a bender or non-bender`s energy as a signal beacon to tell where they were. The Southern Air Temple, though deserted was filled with high levels of spiritual energy, taking advantage of an opportunity to meditate, Bingwen settled down in a corner of the temple; having done so, she was able to wrestle her emotions underneath control, as seeing Prince Zuko had reawakened her emotions of hatred, as his personality reminded her of the Southern Raiders. During their stop to Kyoshi Island, Bingwen was coddled presumably to her blindness, becoming enraged at Sokka when he made fun of her for it; the sheer extent of her anger agitated the Unagi, which surfaced from the bay and sprayed a beam of water at Sokka. After her anger died down, the Unagi went back into the bay, with Sokka apologizing to Bingwen for his behavior. Though still upset, she would still forgive him, glancing towards the water where the Unagi rested; during the middle of the day, she would go down near the water where the Unagi is resting, and confides in it all of her hopes and dreams. While in the middle of talking to the Unagi, Bingwen was attacked by Prince Zuko; forced to defend herself, she tripped and landed in the bay with the Unagi. The Prince would then leave to deal with the other benders, while Bingwen was trying to tame the Unagi so that it wouldn`t eat her. In the end, the Unagi was tamed, and she gained a new group of friends in the Kyoshi Warriors.

Visiting the Southern Air Temple[]

Having left Kyoshi Island, they flew towards the Southern Air Temple, where they would learn about the genocide of the Air Nomads; an event that Bingwen, having been isolated from the world for so long knew nothing about. After Aang was provoked into the Avatar State from seeing his father-figure, Monk Gyatso, Bingwen was notably irritated with having wind blasted in her face, expressing that on her face.
